Another look at the mystery of Mr. Hogan's swing...
Very interesting stuff. If you are a "Hoganphile" it's definitely worth reading. But, like the rest of the Hogan books out there, you need to sift through the author's own perspective/bias. Most writers, if not all, start with their own view of what is "right" and what is "happening" and flavor what they write from that perspective, drawing their own conclusions. Realize that Mr Hogan said many times that he was describing what he FELT, not always what he thought he DID. Study the many videos out there, read what Mr Hogan said, then try to imagine it from HIS perspective. You may come to some interesting conclusions of your own.

'Ben Hogans Secret'.....the gift that keeps on giving...
Until someone opens a vault and finds a signed, fully notarised and authenticated document from Ben Hogan saying "This really is my secret, cross my heart and hope to die" the way remains open for people to keep churning out Hogan Secret books. The topic has been covered by the full spectrum of writers from world famous teachers who are clearly not just in it for the money, to complete 'chancers' looking to make a quick buck. Anyone with even the most tenuous link to the great man seems to be cashing in now that there is no one to stand up and say 'this simply isn't true'.As the reader, you pay your money and make your own mind up.This offering from Larry Miller is interesting enough to a certain degree. The source of the secret can best be described as second hand but with a certain degree of credibility. His version of the secret is very reasonable, if nothing earth shattering (no spoiler alert I'm afraid. The guy has the right to have you pay for his work) and is far more plausible than some of the things I have read. Owing to its relative simplicity however, it does not justify a book in excess of two hundred pages, and as a consequence this book contains more filler than my old Mark 2 Ford Escort. Two things concern me. One is the presence of a two page chapter in the book about the rebirth of the Hogan Golf Company for which Mr Miller discloses that he is an Advisory Staff Member. A cynical person may consider this shameful advertising, and the book as a means to reignite interest in the Hogan name at an appropriate time. The second thing is that all the books I have read on Hogan depict him as a hard working man with a very robust code of ethics based on honesty and integrity. Towards the end of his playing career he famously accepted a sizeable sum of money to reveal his secret in print, which he subsequently did. I find it hard to accept that such a man would enter into this contract and not be wholly truthful. I would suggest that what Hogan revealed was the secret as he saw it, and that any suggestion by him thereafter that there was more was simply Hogan playing on the gullibility of fools who he famously didn't suffer gladly. For my part I just love golf and reading. I will continue to read these books for pleasure. But if you want the Fundamentals to help you improve your golf, I can recommend Five good Lessons!
