Flents Protechs Quiet Please Foam Ear Plugs, NRR 29, 25 Pair

Another revision (as of 6/2012): I think that Flents heard the complaints from long time users. I recently ordered the other Flents Quiet Please...the ones that are hexagonal foam. Although they got positive reviews on Amazon, they were not as good as the original. I returned them and again ordered the 50 pr jar. I am pleasantly surprised! One pair is again lasting 5 days with very effective sound blocking. I won't delete my original review because it shows that sellers can respond to buyers complaints. Thank You Flents. Revised review alert! Below is the review I wrote upon recieving the 50pr container in January (I thought I was getting a good buy)...I had a small box to go through and didn't open and use this order until last week. As another critic said, Flents seems to have changed the quality and not for the better. The good news is that they still are comfortable and block noise as effectively. The bad news is that where as I used to be able to get at least 4 nights wear out of one pair, this new order is barely usable for 2 wearings. I had an older pair that I keep in a travel kit and the difference is noticeable...the new foam is softer and breaks down faster. They are also slightly shorter. Shame on Flents for diminishing the quality of a wonderful product. So much for the good price I thought I was getting. I would rather pay a bit more as the price of consistancy. But having said that, below is my original review: I've been using Flents Quiet Please Ear Plugs for a few years now...I wish I had known about them years before. They are far better than Hearos, Macks, or even the other Flent earplug styles for noise blocking and comfort. Watch what you buy because Flent's also makes another Quiet Please model(called Ear Stopples) and a plastic foam style called Quiet Time...these are not the same! The only drawback is that they do have to be disposed of within 3-6 uses. But that's not really a big deal. Here are a few usage tips if you have a hard time inserting them: 1)Moisten your ear canal with a few drops of water with one hand while you roll the plug as tightly as possible with the other. 2)Pull you ear away from you head with the opposite hand while you insert the plug. 3)Open you mouth as wide as possible...this seems to help open the canal. 4)Work quickly...the plugs start to expand within seconds. If it doesn't go immediately, don't attempt to stuff in the expanded plug. Re-roll the plug and re-mositen you ear. 5)Don't expect both ear canals to be the same angle. For me, the right one always goes in more easily than the left. Be patient...it may take several tries before you get a sense of the angle of each ear.

UPDATE: Feel free to read my original review and know that I no longer feel the same about these earplugs. The new material allows the earplugs to become a long tube that end up hurting my ears just like the other type of earplugs on the market. I only started to buy flents because the unique shape and material. These are the same crap material as the other earplugs I hated and now I hate these too. I haven’t slept the last few nights because these “new improved softer” earplugs are murdering my poor little ear canals. The product was perfect before and it worked for people with small delicate ear canals and now they simply do not. If other earplugs hurt your ears then these will too! (Female/29 — this is my hubs acct that I share) I’m a very light sleeper and my husband is a moderate snorer. The first few years I made it work here and there through rough nights with some standard Mack’s earplugs with a bullet-like shape. I found that they hurt my smaller ear canal and I’d wake up in the night with sore and itchy ears. So I tried all sorts of different earplugs, even noise cancelling earbuds which I would play white noise through— but they were either completely ineffective at blocking noise or incredibly painful a few hours into use. I wish I could have discovered flents earplugs 7 years ago— but I’m overjoyed to have them in my life now. Even my husband said he was shocked when he got up in the night to use the bathroom and noticed that I was deep asleep and dare I say gently snoring (usually I’m stirring when he gets up for any reason). These babies don’t hurt my little ears one bit, the shape doesn’t press up against my ear drum or cause me to experience any itchiness. This is truly the first time I’ve been able to sleep on my sides comfortably in earplugs, or get through a night without ripping them out just from the pain caused by traditional bullet-shaped earplugs. I will say that the noise reduction isn’t as good as some, but they do enough to block out 99% of his snoring— save for the really loud nights in which it still nocks out the majority of the sound and makes it a lot easier to tolerate than before. The most important thing for me the lack of discomfort I experience with this brand— they now have a customer for life!! Any bad reviews may just be operator error because these are the best. If your earplugs are hurting you, give these a chance!

I have been using these earplugs for nearly twenty years and I'm glad that I found them on Amazon, since CVS and Walgreens no longer carry them. I started using Quiet Please earlugs because my husband snored like a freight train and they reduced the sound to the point were I could get a good night's sleep. He eventually got a CPAP, which eliminated the snoring, but I found that as I get older, I am becoming a light sleeper and sometimes just him moving around in the morning will wake me. These earplugs are a necessity and I wear them nearly every night (I give my ears a rest if he's out of town.) They are a must when traveling because they allow me to sleep when people in nearby rooms allow their doors to slam behind them. I keep a few pairs in every suitcase. I also found them extremely useful when I was in school. They quieted the sound from noisy neighbors when I was studying and the sound eliminated the noise of keyboard keys and "pencil-tappers" when I was taking exams. Yes, the material seems to be a little harder than it used to be and they don't spring back as well, or last more than a few days, but they are still number one in my book for comfort and sound-blocking. My ears canals are very small and my skin is quite sensitive. The softer, smoother, bell-shaped earplugs create small sores in my ears after a few days of use. I believe it is some kind of contact dermatitis. I don't have that problem with these earplugs. Perhaps the slightly rougher texture doesn't bother me because I have been wearing earplugs for years, but I just don't have any problems at all with these earplugs. I highly recommend them and will continue to purchase them for as long as they are available.

Until recently, I've always been such a deep sleeper that noises never woke me when I slept (comes from a childhood living on a street that the firetrucks used to get out of the neighborhood and onto the main streets). For whatever reason, things started waking me up at night: the sound of someone down the street starting a car; a dog barking, etc.). I'd never thought of earplugs until someone mentioned it to me. These had a good rating, so I thought I'd give them a try. They're fantastic. They block enough noise to keep me from waking up, but don't block out the noise of the phone ringing or the alarm going off - the noise is softer, but still loud enough for me to hear. These are comfortable to wear. They took a bit of getting used to (a few nights - but it wasn't disturbing enough to keep me awake: it was just getting used to something in the ear). There is no information that says how long to use them for, before switching them out for a new pair. The first pair I just wore, with no set timetable. After a week or so, I noticed that I could hear things more loudly than when they were new. I also noticed that as time passed, they got a bit "tougher" - took a bit more to roll them thin to insert them, a bit longer to expand, a bit harder feel in my ear. For me, I use one pair per week. I've seen other reviews where people use them for longer periods of time, but I find that after about a week, they're not as comfortable or as good at blocking the noise. So, every Sunday night I use a new pair. (That's 25 weeks worth of plugs - about 6 months). I don't use them for any other purpose than to sleep, but I think they'd be good for situations where you want a bit more quiet, with a bit less distracting noise: studying in a coffee shop; reading while someone is watching tv in the next room; maybe an airplane. As for other places to use them (gun range, around loud machinery, etc.), I couldn't say, as I'm not around either. But, for sleeping, I'd highly recommend them.

I must've been using these Flent's Quiet Please (or whatever name they may have had in the past) for at least 15-20 years, almost exclusively for sleeping. Upon receiving the last container (and noticing the now even softer, more comfortable banner on the label), I was definitely not blown away (or really pleased). As others have mentioned, they've taken a nice simple barrel-shaped soft, malleable foam earplug and somehow modified with something more sticky/rubbery - seems more like some of these other tapered ear plugs (from Flent's or Mack's or whomever). While I do think the quality of Flent's earplugs may have slipped slightly over the years (they didn't seem to work for 2-3 nights, or possibly even more, like they had in the past), this new formula is a bit annoying. 1) It's much trickier to roll them into a slimmer barrel shape for inserting into the ear canal, since they expand much quicker and 2) they're almost too mushy and don't find the ear canal as easily. I don't know, perhaps I'll grow to appreciate them more, but that's my impression after 3-4 weeks with the new SOFTER formula. I have been a loyal customer of this brand forever, but based on this recent change, I may just have to find another brand (seems like 3M makes something like the old formula) to use going forward. Yes, they're just earplugs, but comfort and durability are important when good sleep is of the essence. Jan. 2024 update: I have to say that having used these earplugs for a solid 3 or 4 months now, I am definitely less disappointed with the new material. I think that the plugs are actually easier to roll into form to insert in the ears, possibly stay in the ears even better (this may be debatable), but absolutely have a longer life span than the previous formula. They don't get dirty like the previous firmer foam ones did, and those usually needed to be tossed after two nights, possibly three (but that was pushing it). The new ones honestly look almost new after a couple of nights, so I have occassionally reused them possibly 3-4 nights (inadvertently). Now, whether they're giving me the same relief from noise at that point, probably not quite, but it's hard to tell the difference. So, I'd say I've kind of come around to the new formula. My biggest issue now is knowing when to toss them, since it's really hard to tell know how much I've used them. Not a bad problem to have. So, I guess the upshot is: change can be annoying and hard to adjust to, but perhaps the folks at Flent's knew what the heck they were doing. I know, far TMI!!! ;-)

I suffer from chronic migraines (I get 3 migraine days about every 3 weeks). However, the world doesn't stop turning and people love loud bassy music and rumbly motors no matter how much it makes my head feel like it's going to explode. Ear plugs are absolutely essential during my migraines! I used to love Mack's ear plugs... until they changed their formula. After a very long and exhausting search, I finally found Flents! They weren't as good as my Mack's had been but they fit my ears without hurting and were good enough to cut most of the noise that caused my head to feel like it would explode. Well, were! I just opened the newest jar of flent's during my latest migraine (I live in an apartment and a guy kindly likes to work on his very loud and growly engine til 11 at night and start again at 6am). I put my trusty flents in and laid down. But it was weird I could hear my fan, which normally I can't. And I could hear every single rev of the truck as if it were inside my bedroom. I took the earplugs out and put them back in thinking maybe it was me. Same thing! Tried a fresh pair, same thing! My head was reaching the point where i wasn't sure I was going to be able to hold down water! Thankfully I still had a pair from my old jar and I put those in. As they expanded the fan and growl of the motor slowly faded until I could barely hear the motor and its revving was little more than a distant sound that no longer felt like it was reverberating through my head. Later on, I checked the new bottle and realized it had a new label that read "Protech." I then took out the ear plugs and noticed they were VERY squishy. I took out the last pair remaining at the bottom of my old jar and they were squishy but so much more firm. You could tell the material was much better in the "old" pair that came out of the old jar without the Protech logo. Again I tried the earplugs side by side and, the protech ones not only didn't help cut out any sound, it seemed to almost amplify the sound somehow?! (That could be just me) I would definitely not recommend these earplugs now that they are being made by Protech. They are comfortable, but they are also cheap, flimsy and not only let in tons of sound but, at least in my case, amplify sound. So back to the grueling grind of finding new earplugs! Wish me luck and hope this helps someone save their money as it's too late for me to return these crappy imitations of what used to be an excellent earplug! TL; DR version: *Used to be pretty awesome but seems Flents was bought out by a new company who now makes them cheaply (material is very soft and too squishy and even a different color than the ones I got end of last year). Pro(s): *VERY comfortable and fits extra small earholes Cons: *New formula no longer cuts out hardly any noise *In my case, seemed to amplify the worst noises (loud bassy music, growly motors, neighbors dog barking) ***UPDATE/FYI: I forgot to put this in my review above... *Amazon has made this item a non-returnable item. So be aware that even if you are within your 30 day period for a return you will **not** be able to return this item!!! If you really want to try these (hey everyone is different and these didn't work for me but that doesn't mean they won't for you), I would highly recommend a much smaller trial size box or finding some at Walmart, Target, or any other store that still honors a return window on items if you can. Hope this helps someone to save a little time, money and frustration!

Take 2 sleep deprived adults with their own snoring issues..add in one very spoiled, very vocal 5 month old cat and you have a problem. Mr Meowington likes his breakfast served immediately at break of dawn. Oh I was warned do not feed the cat early in the morning..you will create a monster. However when you are woken up by a new baby kitten meowing ever so softly in your face because he is hungry..you oblige (right?)...months later the kitten grew..the meow got louder and now its like a fog horn of cat breath right to the face. Lesson learned. Now i search google and answer after answer says two sleep deprived adults MUST ignore the cat calls to retrain him to eat at a normal hour. Thank goodness for these earplugs! They have done their job! I passed them out to other family members too just in case the meows were loud enough to penetrate walls (oh yes they were!..should have shared them with the neighbors)..King of the castle was not happy about a delayed breakfast and he let the world know it. The earplugs muffled the sound enough that it was not irritating, and let me tell ya this cat is persistent! I also used a white noise sound machine. Two days later Cat breakfast is now served at 9am...side benefits..blocked out the husbands snoring, sleep talking and occasional screams from falling off a cliff (sleep issues) AND I did not hear the garbage truck at 6am in the morning. They don't block out noise completely, you can still hear an alarm but they muffle noise enough that it is not annoying. They are soft and spongey so when you put them in they will expand slightly to fit your ear. Hope this helps!

I have been using these earplugs constantly for 17 years and absolutely adored them until they changed this year. They were one of my all-time favorite products that improved my overall quality of life. They worked incredibly well and were extremely comfortable. I used them for sleep and they were my favorite sleep aid. However, this year they changed - they are now sticky and uncomfortable. I still use them but I use them less often (which means I use fewer of them) and I am looking for an alternative. They are no longer one of my favorite products. Buy them only if sticky earplugs don't bother you. As another reviewer has said, the shape has also changed - the shape is much less distinctive now and more like the rest of the earplugs on the market. There's an old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" This product was perfect as it was, but the current marketing ethos requires that products be redesigned every few years whether they need to be or not. This product was redesigned and my reason for buying it was designed right out of it. I was an incredibly happy customer who now seeks an alternative and is working on learning to live without this product because it no longer meets my needs.

These are the best earplugs. They block out the noise great. Expensive but totally worth it in my opinion. Stay in all night. Would highly recommend.
