WARNING!! THIS CD IS MIXED! (SONGS RUN TOGETHER)
There is good selection on this CD, and the fidelity is outstanding. However, BE WARNED THAT this CD is mixed--that is, the next song will start before the present song is finished playing. If you are just listening as background or for exercise, fine. But if you are trying to pick up specific tracks, avoid this CD, as you will not get a "clean" copy of your target tracks; instead the start of your target track will be combined with the end of the previous track, and then the end of your target track will be combined with the start of the next track. (There are only a couple of seconds overlap usually between the departing and arriving track.)Because it is mixed and that is not a featured fact on the CD, I give it only 3 stars. But if the mixing doesn't bother you or if you prefer it, it is a very solid compilation. And if you like mixing, the mixing is quite well done. However, all these songs are available elsewhere in unmixed compilations if you look around a little. Go to Google Advanced Search, type in the name of the song in the "exact phrase" search section, then put the group's name (in quotations if more than one word) and the key phrase "various artists" (also in quotes) in the top line of the search area (the "all the words" search area). You will easily find other compilations with your target songs on them. Happy Hunting!Oh and don't be confused by the "1998" in the title, there is no connection to that year in the CD itself, it is all '80s originals.

dancing with myself
it seems that i have concentrated on the 6o'sand 70's in my cd collection. there was notmuch from the 80's decade except for talking heads, clash, pearl jam etc. this collection fills thathole quite nicely. it starts out with the romanticsand billy idol i forgot how much these two bandsrocked. you will also get flock seagulls, abc, duran duran alot of british new wave. the cutby the fine young cannibals 'you drive me crazy'is quite catchy & will remind you of why youliked it even if its been 10 years since you lastheard it. recommended

Nice New Wave Set
"Ultimate New Wave Party" gives you some of the best new wave tunes from the 80s.The sound quality is excellent and there are liner notes. While the mix sounds good when listening to the CD in its entirety, it makes selecting individual tunes or shuffle play a little dicey - which is the only reason I didn't give this CD 5 stars. But if you love the 80s or you're throwing an 80s party then this is the CD for you!

Ultimate New Wave Dance Party
I ended up sending this back. Not the CD's fault - it came factory wrapped and looked in good shape. I was looking at a lot of music that day and ordered this by mistake.

Good old days
Happy music! Clinton in the White House, Surplus in the Budget! No Tea Party or Flea Party. What's not to like about the vibe in the Eighties!

Fun
Could be a recording from a night in the club in 1985. Really good selections from the eighties! Great flashback to the mid 80's club scene.

Includes the 1992 remix of "Take My Breath Away"
While all these songs have appeared on other CDs and this CD is mixed, making it pretty much useless for serious collectors on both points, it has ONE gem. The more 'dance' oriented 1992 remix of Berlin's Take My Breath Away that got pretty heavy airplay, at least on New York radio, is here in its radio length (a little under 4 minutes). This is the ONLY place I've ever seen this remix on CD. It was originally released on bootleg vinyl back in the vinyl in its longer 12" mix, but at least it's been preserved digitally in some form on here.

An excellent New Wave collection
"Ultimate New Wave Party 1998" is an excellent collection of songs. Most of the selections on this disc are from the 80s, and listening to the disc reminds me why so many people remember 80s music with such fondness. This CD strikes a near-perfect mix of romance (Modern English, "I Melt With You"), wounded cynicism (Soft Cell, "Tainted Love"), irresistible self-indulgence (Billy Idol, "Dancing With Myself"), sensuality (Berlin, "Take My Breath Away"), animalistic sexuality (Duran Duran, "Hungry Like the Wolf"), whimsy (Madness, "Our House"; Thomas Dolby, "She Blinded Me with Science"), and weirdness (Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams"; A Flock of Seagulls, "I Ran"). Highly recommended.
