How will I know when to replace the battery?

Accepted Answer

When the battery reaches a critically low level, you will hear a low battery alert chirp every two (2) seconds.  This will only happen when the Prox PRD is moved so don’t worry; no middle of the night low battery alerts.

To stop the chirping, you will need to turn the PRD off by pressing and holding the button until you hear it power off.  Once turned off, the PRD cannot be turned back on until the battery is replaced.  Please note that when the battery is replaced, the PRD’s default settings will be restored.

How is travel mode different from the default home mode?

There are two basic operating modes: HOME mode (the default) where the PRD alerts only when it is moving away from the phone and TRAVEL mode where the PRD alerts when moving away from the phone OR the phone is moving away from the PRD.  Travel mode works well in busy environments (e.g., airport or restaurant) and someone accidentally (or intentionally) picks up your phone and walks away.

To adjust this mode, press the button five (5) times, then hold the button down until you hear 1 beep (HOME) or 2 beeps (TRAVEL) indicating the current setting, then single-click to toggle.

Question 3

I am experiencing further alert distances outside.  Is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Alert distances can be further if both the PRD and phone are outside in an open space and there are no obstructions between the two — e.g., buildings, walls, doors, trees, or people.  The alert distances can also be further if the PRD is being held in your open hand versus it being placed in your pocket or handbag.

do you get a notification on your phone if you leave the device home in your wallet?

Accepted Answer

You will not get a notification on the phone if you leave the Prox PRD behind.  The Prox PRD is designed as a Phone Reminder Device and it is based on the principle of the PRD being on the move and notifying you (through the audible alert) that you have left your phone behind if you exit proximity of the phone (~50 to 150 feet) and are about to drive away without it. Further, we don't recommend carrying the PRD in a wallet because the button may be accidentally activated.
