The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle: An Uplifting and Unforgettable Story of Love and Second Chances

British tragedy
I didn’t know the UK (and its empire) was such a repressive police state regarding gays even though I was aware of what they did to Alan Turing.It was frustratingly slow to get to what happened between Albert and George but it was worth it in the end.The Jamie - Nicole - Reenie story was nice but seemed besides the point and in the way.I would still like to know why Albert didn’t hunt down George as soon as Albert’s mother died.

One of the best books of the year!
This is a must read! Great characters, funny, multi-faceted and relatable. Albert's journey is believable and heartbreaking, yet joyous and watching him grow and find himself was wonderful. The supporting cast in his life are diverse and you learn to love them, faults and all. I have recommended this book to many people, they all loved it.

An older, painfully shy gay British postal carrier's story of "hard-earned" forgiveness
The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle tells the story, from Albert's point of view, of his life as a sad, lonely and soon-to-retire postman.There are a number of [mostly] sweet flashbacks along the way of Albert's first and only love affair as a gay young man. But his homophobic parents (although his mother "sort of" redeems herself late in her life) soon put a stop to that and Albert ends up alone, very shy and withdrawn until just approaching mandatory retirement age with the British Royal Mail Service.At the "forced" urging of his often delightful boss, Marjorie, he reluctantly agrees to be "Secret Santa" at his final office Christmas Party. And that's when the fun starts when Albert has to buy something "sexy" to wear in order to play his part.After that, this terribly introverted man starts to open up a bit and even makes a few friends with people along his mail route; grudgingly [at first] getting involved in their day-to-day lives.Of course that means that those new friends - along with boss Marjorie - also get involved in Albert's life as well; learning that Albert is a very closeted gay man and slowly learning about the sad loss of his first and only boyfriend 45 years earlier. And so they determine to try and reunite Albert with the great love of his life, George Atkinson.There the story bogs down a bit (with possibly a FEW too many characters) but not terribly so as Albert and his new friends do their detective work tracking down the long lost George.The ending is a tad abrupt yet uplifting.Gay men in their 60s CAN find love again :-}

Lovely
This book was just uplifting to me. It was sad at times, but it made you want to hug Albert! I hope there is a sequel. I hated for the book to end.

Wow....fantastic!
I'm not gay myself, nor do I have many gay friends but I feel strongly that the more we all learn to understand and accept one another, the better off we would all be! Great book....

Going alone.
A story of a much closeted gay man 50 years after repudiating his only love who, on the eve of retirement, sets out to reconnect with the love of his life. While the story is life reaffirming, it is also a tad trite in its treatment of an isolated closeted gay man stepping into his gayness to universal acclaim in a very different era. Along the way he parcels out hard learned life lessons to acquaintances to ease them over roadblocks to happiness in their own lives.

Amazing human story...
The book is easy to read and tells the story of a man who experienced repression and social pressure to be what he was not and not to feel what he felt from the deepest areas of his heart. Albert Entwhistle lived without living. The story shows what is really important in life and what it takes to be real. Totally recommend this book.

Uplifting Love Story
I loved reading a story about a 65 year old who decodes that it's not too late for a second chance at love. Albert and each character that weaves into his story are loveable and keep you rooting for all of them. The side stories are just as engaging as the main plot. I would love to have an Albert in my life!
