I am reading it to my 2nd graders and they love it. Great story. Review: A Gem - This was a hilarious read. My 5-year-old son loves to listen to books, and he and I both enjoyed the six stories in this book. Each story was short enough to read in about fifteen minutes, which is great when reading to a wiggly boy! There were some more old-fashioned words that I had to explain, but that just means his vocabulary expanded. My son has an extraordinary long attention span when it comes to books, so I think most 8-to-10-year-old kids, especially boys, would be the ideal audience for this book. Anyone old enough to read will also enjoy it, though. I did! Who wouldn't be entertained by stories about doughnuts containing diamonds, superheroes in car wrecks, and a boy and a skunk outwitting four theives?

a favorite, classic read
This is a classic book that makes for fun reading. Some of the stories feel very dated, especially in today's highly technological world, but they retain their humor and provide a look at days gone by for youngsters of today.

Good read for kids
I read this book when I was a kid back in the 1960's. It was hilarious then. Times have changed, but Homer's adventures should still be entertaing at least, and downright roflmao at best. I bought the book to reread for myself, but it would make an excellent addition to a grade school reader's library.

Childhood Favorite
I loved these books as a kid, excited to read them w/my kids. Be entertained by the fun and charming tales of the antics Homer and the townsfolk get up to, taking place around the 1930s. Robert McCloskey is one of my favorite illustrators. This is a chapter book but has a lot of fantastic illustrations throughout.

Mixed feelings
First the bad: "Homer Price" was my absolute favorite book as a young kid. I recently needed a trip down a nostalgia path and wanted something valuable from my youth that I could share with my grandkids. I purchased a used copy of the book through one of the re-sellers on Amazon. The copy I received was in good physical condition but the margins were filled with foul scribbling and vulgar graffiti. That made it a book I could no longer share with my grandkids. It would have cost as much as I paid for it to ship it back so it's in my recycling bin. Now the EXCELLENT: I then ordered a NEW copy of "Homer Price" and the sequel "Centerburg Tales". This time, without the vandalism of the used copy, I was able to read the story and fondly think back to my childhood friends who also read the book. We'd discuss the book often. At age eight, Homer Price, might just be the book that made me be a reader. These are books that I feel every young boy should read. The stories are fun. They come from a time when writers did not feel the need to be edgy or include a political or societal agenda. The book is about kids being kids, before the age of 24/7/365 organized sports, TV, Ipad...

I read this over and over as a child and even as a teenager and now enjoy reading it with my son. The illustrations are fantastic and the stories have a magical blend of every day life in mid-century, small-town America combined with outlandish characters and tall-tale mischief.
