O'Neill Men's Basic Skins UPF 50+ Short Sleeve Rash Guard

Check sizing on O'neill website. Don't size up if you are athletic build
About the sizing:I'm 6'1", 185lbs, athletic/muscular build. With a 43.5" chest and a 32" waist and at my weight the chart on O'neal's page says I should be in a large but because of everything here I went XL. Should have trusted the O'neal page as this isn't supposed to be baggy, it's supposed to be a second skin. The XL is very long and has extra space around the middle that will end up flapping around in the wind when wet and I'm paddling on the river.Do yourself a favor and if you have a very athletic build trust the chart. If you have a bit of gut you want to hide then go ahead and size up.

RIDICULOUSLY SMALL
Yes, other reviewers had commented on how small this shirt is and how it is supposed to stretch to fit your body very tightly. How small and how tightly is hard to appreciate until you actually buy one of these things, so I am posting a photo of an XL size shirt that I got.The shoulder width is just slightly over 18 inches wide (the full length of the ruler at the top), and the width at the waist/hips is about 14 inches (that is a foot long ruler at the bottom).A picture is a worth a thousand words, and this one picture would have really really helped a lot of people not waste time getting a shirt that is way too small and tightly fitting for them.

Don’t bother with “swim shirts”
I’ve been looking for a couple years for an ideal “swim shirt”. I’ve bought a few that were marketed specifically as men’s swim shirts; designed to be worn in our out of the water to protect from the sun. These typically are baggy T-shirts made of fitness apparel material and flop and wave while in the water and then get really heavy and uncomfortably snug when out of the water (like wearing a weighted shirt). This shirt however wears like a wet suit; tight like a second skin which doesn’t twist and shift when getting in and out of the water. Comfortable to swim in and doesn’t get in the way, and dries nicely when out of the water. I thought black might be a mistake because it would bake in the sun, but when wet, the evaporation has a nice cooling effect. Excellent sun protection too, I’ve spent hours in the hot July sun without a burn to show for it. My one knock on the shirt is that the sleeves aren’t very stretchy- I am by no means a muscular man but the sleeves get uncomfortably tight after a while. I wear a size L T-shirt and ordered this in L as well and it’s the perfect fit. It’s SUPPOSED to be tight, beer belly or not!

great product. DOES NOT RUN SMALL IF YOU WANT SURF RASH GUARD
i read lots of reviews claiming this product runs small.Surf rashguards are supposed to be SUPER tight. If you want this for SURFING and you know what you are expecting you may want to order your usual size, not a larger one.if you want this for daily wear by the beach, maybe get a larger size.the SMOKE HYBRID color (dark grey- melange) is gorgeous.hubby is super sensitive to sun and UV seems to be top notch as we spent a week in Hawaii (6-12 hs per day under the sun) with no sunburns!

Excellent!
I bought 8 of these shirts in all the various colors for a dive trip to the Florida Keys so I would not have to wear a wetsuit out of water, and still have some protection from the sun while on the boat. They are great! Comfortable, unrestrictive, and worth every penny...! I love the look and they feel like a second skin. Breathable, and quick drying, they are great for any Watersport like jet skiing, wind surfing, snorkeling, or just swimming in a pool. UV reflective material prevents sun damage with SPF rated at 50... And they look cool...!

short sleeve rash guards are tight fit
5'9" 155-160 lbs. My husband tried the medium and large rash guards. The medium was incredibly tight everywhere, but a descent fit length wise; the large was still tight but not so bad, the problem is the large is way too long likely only a good fit for someone 6'. If you were throwing the rash guard on right as you got in the water where you would scrape your stomach on reefs I could see the merit, but not ideal for swimming and hanging around a pool or beach. I ended up returning both of the short sleeve rash guards. The long sleeve rash guard had a much better fit and I ended up going with a medium. Worn twice without sunburn.

Fits perfect
I'm 6' 6", 190 lbs, 41 inch chest, 33/34 inch waist and this actually fits! Yes, it's snug, it's supposed to be. Wore this (and also the same O'Neill Basic Skins in Long-sleeve, which fit my arm length!) at the beach in some rather rough ocean and the shirt stayed snug and fit the whole time. I liked both the short-sleeve and long-sleeve so much that I bought another of each...so I have 4 now.

Need one? Get this one!
As a long time surfer, boogie boarder and body whomper, this rashie is perfect. I spend so much time in the water (on vacation) and need to keep my farmer tan pristine, the sun protection is of utmost importance. This fits better than most, and the material is of high quality. I like my rash guards tight so they don't creep up on me while chasing waves.

Sizing is totally off, manufacturing defect
There's definitely something defective with the sizing:1. I'm a very consistent medium. I've actually even lost 25 lbs so I'm actually on the lean side of medium right now (6 feet tall, 153 lbs). No word of a lie, this feels like a small, I could barely put it on.2) Here's why I know for sure there's something defective (aside from the multiple users complaining it's waaay small), the sizing is inconsistent. Size reads as a U.S. medium, UK 3XL and EU 50. That is NOT the correct conversion. A U.S. M is supposed to be a UK M. I bought another O'Neil shirt today and it had the correct conversion on the shirt.Bottomline, this seems to be a manufacturing defect.

I was like "Heh. " Once I tried it on though
For some reason when I bought this, I thought it was a thin neoprene. This was on me for not paying attention. When it arrived, I was like "Heh." Once I tried it on though, I was more than happy with it, and actually greatly prefer the material it is made of. It fits like a compression shirt. Other reviewers say it runs small. I am 5'8", 185 lbs roughly with a 41 inch chest and I got the large. It fits fine. As I said earlier, I prefer this tight fit and smooth material it is made of, I know now that whilst I'm snorkeling it won't get snagged on anything. The stitching under the arms is moved to a nice spot. I am yet to try it out, so I can't speak (as of right now) how well the chafing is going to be with repetitive movement, but the stationary fit seems fine. It is long, but that doesn't bother me at all - it goes down to about my hips, so if you're looking for a compression shirt that works for multiple paddlesports, or if you're looking to showing off your legs and butt on the beach and want a nice dress, this doubles as both.

Vital part of the puzzle for lane swimmers using Garmin HR-Swim heart rate monitors
I picked this up as my $125+ Garmin HR-Swim (ASIN B012H8IRLQ) chest strap heart rate monitor was starting to see strap failure after only 6 months. The force of pushing off the pool wall each length pulls the monitor part of this strap down no matter what you do, you can make it tight enough that it doesn't slip but the chlorine / bromine and the strap design will combine to see the material begin to give way where the clasp meets and eventually even at the tightest it won't be tight enough to hold and then it will pop. Before that happens, for $30~$40, you can buy a solution in the O'Neill wetsuit rash guard (short sleeve). Then you don't need to over-tighten the HR monitor and the tight compression-style fit of the rash guard ensures that pushing off the wall isn't pulling down on the monitor as you now have substantially decreased your overall resistance with the smooth material of the top.If you've read about fit let me tell you this, I am 6'1" and 220lbs and when I first bought this and tried it on I thought, "Holy freaking Moses, how can this possibly be X-Large????"I looked into the return options immediately but then I was going swimming the next morning and thought, heck, why not give it one try first just to see how it goes.Okay, it's SUPPOSED to be tight. This is the compressed style of rash guard, not the loose fitting t-shirt style. It has plenty of stretch to it and once I got in the water and started swimming freestyle (front crawl) laps I realized the shirt was fitting as intended. It keeps everything in place and it's snug, because it's compressed. So if you order one and you try it and think it's tight as all heck, give it a wear or two in the activity you bought it for and you may find it is the right size and that the size does match what you'd choose for a t-shirt. I wear XL t-shirts, the XL size of this top turned out to be just right. If you're just buying a rash guard as more of a UV protection for your back and chest, consider buying the loose fit style and not the tighter compression style. This top is more for lane swimming, open water swimming in waters that aren't super cold, etc.EDIT Nov/2019 - some wan**r knicked my rash guard from the change room instead of handing it in to lost and found so I had to get a new one, have lost a little weight recently and got the LG instead of XL this time, once again initial fit seemed like maybe I got one size too small but by the time I was in the pool it was perfect. This is really a great item, virtually no drag either.

Order one size larger
Haven't had it very long yet but it appears to be excellent quality. I took the advice of most people and ordered one size larger than usual, which gave me a perfect fit. This is meant to fit skin tight but is comfortable. I'm 5'10", a fit 200 lbs. and I ordered the XL grey. Perfect!
