I am inclined to put When You're Smiling in the same class of unsurpassed trumpet vehicles as Roy Eldridge's Rockin' Chair (with Krupa), Jonah Jones's Jonah Joins the Cab (with Calloway), Billy Butterfield's What's New (with Crosby) and even Concerto for Cootie (Williams with Duke). The rest of the disk is almost as wonderful.
