Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3WH Open-Back Gaming Headset, White

I have very little experience with gaming headsets... Because my head is too big! However, these sound great to me. I use them with the Turtle Beach Recon controller on my Xbox series X. I switched from the turtle beach recon 500s because I just couldn't wear them for more than like a half hour. The sound is comparable to those regarding what I think I should be hearing in game. I'm really liking the open-back though, sounds much more realistic, less like I'm closed in small room. Now that I have these, I'm not sure why anyone would want closed-back... Unless they're consistently right next to someone else they're trying not to disturb. What I can say is that I was blown away by the comfort of these. Like I said I have a large head (7 7/8" hat size) and large ears as well. These are so light and the clamping force is just enough to hold them in place. You don't feel them on the top of your head at all. I don't even have them adjusted all the way out, that's a first for me. The cushions are soft fabric, much better than hot pleather. Due to the fabric and open-back, these hardly warm up at all. I'm able to wear them for a couple hours with no fatigue. I may start using them for meetings just because they're such a pleasure to have on. They're also beautiful, I got the white version... Which is really white, black, and silver. They actually look like headphones and not flight equipment. Even the packaging is excellent, I held onto the box as it was so impressive. I've had audio technica mics in the past, it's one of those brands that I will pay extra for just because. But these were well worth $130 for me simply for the comfort and style. The sound just needed to work for Halo honestly.

I splurged on these to replace a few pair of much less expensive Logitech headsets--the G233, and G332. Those were fine, but they seemed too big and bulky and just looked a bit too 'gamer-ish' for my taste. When looking for a replacement, I wanted to go with a true audio company and not just a PC accessory company that happened to make headphones. I narrowed my search down to a pair of JBLs, Bereydynamics, and these Audio Techincas. I've owned several Audio Technica products--including headphones, turntables, and cartridges and loved them all. I opted for these as they reminded me of my white ATH-M50 studio headphones that I bought years ago and have loved ever since. They were more than I wanted to spend, but I told myself if they were anything like my ATH-M50s, they'll last for years and years. Pros: -They look great. The white, black, and steel combine for a really modern, yet classic look. I like headphones that have that traditional circular earcup shape. A lot of current headsets either have an oval/rectangular design or have weird sharp angles and creases throughout the housing. I just am not a big fan of the silhouette those create. -Minimal frills and unneeded bells and whistles. I don't need the weight of added in-line controls, so it's nice that this just has a plain cord. I have enough RGB, so I didn't want any on my headset. -I usually like a leatherette earcup, but these fabric ones have grown on me. They're velvety soft and don't get too hot or itchy. Compared to the cheap, rough, polyester feeling ones that I had on my Logitech G233--it's night and day. -Love that both the cord and the mic are detachable. -They sit very nicely around my ears and create a very tight seal--I don't game for hours and hours on end, but for the hour I usually wear these, they don't create any fatigue or pressure whatsoever. -The sound is great. Certainly not dedicated studio monitor/audiophile quality, but still a welcome upgrade over my previous headsets. I can tell the open-back design adds more depth and immersion to the first/third-person shooter and open-world games I play. For casual music listening, they're solid as well. Not a ton of bass or instrument separation, but certainly serviceable for a listening session. Cons: -The overall build is just...meh. The plastic feels cheaper, lighter, and more hollow than I would have wished for. The fit and finish are great, but for $100+ I hoped for more of a premium material feel. -The plastic also makes a bunch of creaking, crackling, and groaning when handling and adjusting. Not a huge gripe, but every now and then you'll be able to hear it while they're on if you move your head during a quiet portion of a game. -The mic is fine. It's on par with lower-priced headsets I've used. I was expecting a little more clarity than what it provides. -Not really a con, but these definitely are quieter at the same volume as my other headphones. I have to crank my volume up a bit to get to the same level. When I switch back to my PC speakers, I have to remember to turn it back down or it'll give me a bit of a jump scare. -Once again, not really a con, but the way these were packaged, I thought they may have been refurbished or open-box. The packaging had an Audio Technica outer sleeve which was nicely designed, but after removing that it's just plain brown cardboard the rest of the way with the headphones unceremoniously thrown inside. I watched an unboxing video and saw the same thing, so I breathed easier. This seems to be part of their green-packaging initiative, which is fine by me, I was just caught a bit off guard. Overall I'm, pleased with this purchase. If these are in your price range and you're looking for a more traditional headphone look, you won't be disappointed.

Great headphones at a good price point. The audio quality, while not 'audiophile' level, still packs a good punch and sounds great. The microphone is clear and crisp over discord, and the open-style headphones mean I can still hear my environment and don't nuke my ears from loud gaming. Comfortable too! Happy I bought these.

Not much noise cancellation because I could hear my sister from the kitchen pass the living room. Not really a big deal. What sold me was the comfort and lightness of the headset. As someone who suffers from migraine and ear infection, I am completely satisfied how this headset was made. I also wear glasses and the muffs don't even seemed to apply any uncomfortable pressure. The air holes on the outside doesn't help with noise cancellation but it does seem to help with air circulation so your ears don't get sweaty and damp. Wore it for 8+ hours for gaming/music/movies and no discomfort other than the cord getting in the way time to time. Aside from this, I have been a AT fan for their amazing headsets I use for recording. I never expected a gaming headset to be out there. It may not be the best ones out there but it isn't a bad one. EDIT: So it turns out I overestimated this product. Mic died in couple months after purchase. Feels ands sounds great. Durability, not so much.

These headphones work really well. These headphones are light, comfortable, and fitting. I'm not used to open back, however, it was quite refreshing hearing my own, and my wife's voice while gaming. But if you don't desire to hear any outside noise, just turn up the volume. The sound is extremely balanced. I would suggest running the headphones through an audio interface hub for that flat balanced crisp quality audio technica is known for. Note, I'm a pc gamer. I can't speak for console gaming. But very good headphones.

I had this headset 6 months before the microphone stopped working. Outwardly the headset is in perfect condition and I am especially careful with it, as it's mostly plastic body is quite flimsy feeling. The microphone issue is not related to the external plug in aux mic, but rather something inside the headset's circuitry. It just blasts static whenever I use voice chat. I've tried a few different computers and external plug in mics to confirm my understanding of the problem. I reached out to Audio Technica, and have spent over a month going back and forth with them. Finally they sent me a "replacement" which was just the external aux plug in mic lol. Obviously, it did not solve my issue. Now they claim I need to pay them $30 to send in my in-warranty headset for repair. Total joke, and Amazon won't hold their feet to the fire on the warranty obligation as I've had the headset more than 60 days. Scummy company, I won't be purchasing from them again.

Was looking to replace my old headset (a Razer kraken tournament edition) as the fake leather had started shedding everywhere and it never really sounded good to begin with. When I bought my previous set I specifically needed both PS4 and PC compatibility for my job at the time and the kraken was a cheap option. My needs have evolved and I got a different job so now I spend more time at my desk at home. I wanted something that was comfortable to wear all day, built to last, had a microphone for meetings, and provided an interesting listening experience for my music which I usually play in the background while cranking through projects for work. This Audio-Technicha headset has more or less met the needs while surprising me in a few ways. Comfort: This headset is unbelievably lightweight so there is almost no fatigue from wearing it. The open back design improved the airflow and makes my ears not feel so sweaty or greasy after wearing it all day. They block almost no ambient sound, which is perfect because I wanted to be able to hear the fam. The cloth covered foam pads are pretty cozy and work with my glasses, but I personally miss the cooling gel from my old headset. Only real complaint is where the cable connects to the headphones, the connector is fairly long and stiff which makes it brush my shoulder and jostle the phones when I turn my head. I think most people will find it very comfortable, to the point you will forget you are wearing it after a while. Material quality: No fake leather to eventually crumble is a big plus, materials mostly seem like they will last. I think the pads, cable, and head strap are replaceable with parts from the company. The connector on the cable that goes into the headphones is a unique size (bigger than standard 3.5mm and smaller than a 1/4" instrument cable) so you probably have to buy replacement cords from them, limiting options. The connection initially seemed loose and the mic was cutting out frequently, but I eventually realized you really have to jam the cable into the headphones until there is a solid snap to seat the connector fully. Now the connection seems solid and unlikely to accidentally unplug. The plastic is a little cheap feeling, but the important bits are metal so I think it should hold up as long as I continue using it gently in the home office. I wouldn't take it outside or put it in a laptop bag. I think the trade off for the incredible lightness is that it feels fairly delicate. Microphone: After doing a few test calls and meetings, the mic works great for what I need. I have a low voice so I can sound distorted or unintelligible on some microphones, this one managed to mostly preserve the low timbre while also making my words understandable. It was directed well enough that the automatic noise filtering on Discord and Teams were able to cut any background noise without cutting my speech. It detaches, but is also light enough you don't have to and you can generally bend it out of your way when you don't want it. I dislike the cheap feel of the mute switch, but it works and I wasn't planning on using it. One note: It is a MUTE on/off switch so it needs to be set to off for the microphone to work which seemed backwards to me initially. The open back design is generally a really big plus in calls, as it makes my voice sound more natural to myself as I speak so I don't feel as awkward or the need to shout. On the flip side, I can hear people across the house so sometimes it can be distracting. Music: I enjoy deep listening to music, and these provide an interesting and different sound than anything I had owned previously. This is my first time trying an open back set of headphones and it is definitely something I found myself preferring. It really makes instruments feel more spaced out on tracks so it is easier to pick out the different parts. Most frequencies sound great, but I had to use EQ to lower the high end a bit. Before the adjustment, cymbals and sometimes higher vocals had a noticeably harsh hiss. Now it still seems to accentuate them a bit but it sounds interesting to my ear and gives a different feel to tracks I have heard a million times. Bass notes give a satisfying thump and vibrates the lightweight headset slightly giving a nice tactile experience to the music. I play around with a synthesizer on breaks sometimes and these handle both sub oscillator flickering bass notes and high pitched metallic saw tips well, and the reverb effects sound clearer with the open back. Honestly wasn't looking for perfect studio quality reproduction or whatever, just an interesting and enjoyable listen and these delivered. If anything they may be a bit too interesting as I get caught up on little details in the music while I am working and space out listening instead of getting things done. Fam hasn't complained about the sound while I am listening, but you can definitely hear some frequencies pretty clearly from outside the headphones thanks to the open back. Overall, happy with the purchase, especially since it was a weird compromise between buying a nice set of music headphones and a headset for work calls. Wasn't expecting it to be fantastic at both, but it mostly succeeds with the biggest sacrifices probably being the delicate build quality and the unusual high end sound.

Best headset I’ve had in a long time! People hear me so clearly, whether I’m working customer support or playing a video game. I love the mute & volume function on the actual headset, so I don’t have to turn down my actual device. I’m a curly girl, so the adjustable band is perfect whether I have a fro or my hairs in a low or high puff. The covers for over the ears are so soft and don’t make my ears hurt like other headsets. I also wear glasses and other headsets always made my ears hurt after a certain period of time, but I can wear these all day! Sooo worth the money!

I much prefer open back headphone for gaming, as i like to be able to hear my own voice while speaking. These are some of the best I have ever used. Super light weight, so wearing for extended periods doesn't cause any discomfort. The ear cups are nice and large. Microphone quality is excellent, and can easily be removed when not needed. The sound quality is excellent, even though its open back. Overall I would recommended to anyone who doesn't like the echoing sound of talking with closed back headphones.

Just what you would expect from Audio-Technica!

Son buenos pero por ser abiertos y de Audio-Technica yo esperaba bastante mas. Incluso por la impedancia un poco mas pesada que la mayoría de los audífonos gamer, creí que al combinarlos con un buen AMP el sonido resultaría mas preciso y con mas cuerpo pero no. Lo bueno: - Son súper ligeros, no aprietan, al ser abiertos tus oídos no se "ahogan" y las almohadillas son frescas y los sientes aún mas abiertos y cómodos. Al final sumas todo y puff!! Quizás los audífonos mas cómodos que he probado, tanto que son los ÚNICOS de diadema con los que puedo jugar acostado en la cama y realmente los disfruto. Pero ojo, no es tanta la diferencia contra otros audífonos gamer cómodos que hay por ahí. - No son los abiertos mas espaciados que hay, pero en comparación con la mayoría de gamer cerrados si hay una pequeña ventaja. - La separación de sonidos es brutal, el día y la noche en comparación con cualquier otra gamer cerrado. - Incluye un cable cortito perfecto para consolas o teléfono y otro muuuy largo con división para audio y micro, perfecto para tu PC aun cuando este lejos. Lo malo: - El micro es horrible, mis MH-751 esta 3 niveles por encima. Y la esponjita no me da confianza, pareciera que se empezara a deshacer después de algunos meses y tiene muchos "pops". - El sonido es súper opaco, con agudos y medios aplanados, raro de ver en Audio-Technica y lejisimos de los M50x, por ejemplo. Los graves destacan bajando la frecuencia con buena amplificación pero nada grandioso. - El cable de PC, aunque es largo y funciona bien, parece que fue el cable mas barato que encontraron. - Aprietan tan poco de las almohadas que se desacomodan fácilmente, no es nada grave pero no quería dejar de mencionarlo, si tu plan es moverte con ellos quizás te moleste bastante. Si su micro fuera bueno y el sonido mas cristalino sin duda diría que son los mejores audífonos gamer, pero con esas carencias NO. Y no pagaría mas de 1800 por ellos, los devolveré por lo mismo.

Highly recommend these headphones. I'm not what you would call and "audiophile" but I can at least compare them to some other headphones I've either owned or tried out in comparison. The sound quality is great. From what I can tell they compete with Bose, Beats and Soundcore by Anker (the three I was able to compare them too). I use them for gaming on the playstation 5 and really like the situational awareness they give me. As well as the quality the mic provides, I've never had anyone complain they can't hear me properly. Some things that are quite different that maybe some people wouldn't love or I have read people mention as downsides to them on other reviews which are worth noting are: The muffs are not your standard faux leather, it is a soft microfiber fabric. Maybe some people wouldn't like this but I find it very comfortable and breathable for long game sessions I don't get "hot ears" at all. The open back design is another thing that's not "normal" but is the whole reason I went with these ones. You can hear your own voice while speaking so you don't feel like you are in a cave and you can still hear the whole house so you can for example still hear the cat scratching at the door wanting back inside, the delivery man at the door or your partner wanting to get your attention. So for people who want to be completely isolated while they game or listen to music this is not at all what you'd want. But for their intended purpose they do a very good job. They are incredibly light. I've seen people mention this as a downside because they feel they are flimsy or breakable but I see this as a feature since they are so light in your head you can keep them on for hours without even noticing them. As well as I feel their build quality is high and other than serious about they would hold up fine The mic mute button and volume control button are quite small and can be a little hard to find without taking them off your head first but once you get used to it it's not a problem. The mic is detachable. The audio input cable to the headphones is not a standard 3.5 but slightly larger so if you lose or break the cable you will have to buy their proprietary branded one. This might be my only complaint but the manufacture argues that its more robust and has less risk of breaking off at the headset. Not my favorite but I guess just be careful not to lose it. Same goes for the detachable mic. It is a standard 3.5 but has a tip that might not work with any style. They come with a shorter cable that a person would use for gaming with a consol and then a longer cable that is split at the end for use with a computer. I was worried the open back design would be loud for people around me or for my partner trying to sleep in the other room but it's only slightly noticeable and with a door between you wouldn't notice the noise. Overall they are exactly what I was looking for and am very happy with them.
