Poor effort
I've read all of his books but this is one of Chris Ryan's I will be exiting early. I'm at the 30% point and bored with the lacklustre storyline. It's full of irritating clichés and more than a smattering of ghost writer presence. "Deboard", when did that creep into the authors language? Why do the gangsters descriptions, certainly in the wedding reception phase , remind me of the Krays ? Lazy writing or just unimaginative character development? No idea but this unengaging piece isn't his finest hour.Update: as this book has actually garnered some pretty good reviews I thought I'd press on, be fair. Having now reached a bored 60% point I can say that I fully agree with previous reviewers who say it's written in a child like repetitive manner and the characters are wooden, unlikeable tbh. Chris Ryan whatever your view of him is capable of far better than this woeful effort.

Oh dear
I know I read a book because time past like those of the pages I turned. Yet for the life of me I can't say what it was about. Something about a man. A hit. And suprise, suprise, some russian involvement. This is one of those books that you pick up at an airport before a long 8hr flight. Or 4hrs depending how fast you read. It's passes that time. Nothing more nothing less.

A failed mssion.
This is the first and only Chris Ryan book that I will read. I got 40% through the book without any sense of engagement....like watching a weak movie and wondering if, at any moment, it will suddenly improve and be a worthwhile watch. Unfortunately, as the first real plan unfolded, the writer completely obliterated all work he'd put into the characters and their situation to enable his story to unfold how he wanted it to. Very poor storytelling. A jolting offence to the reader's imagination. In reality....the mission is now over and they're all dead. There is no way for my imagination to gloss over it. Ludicrous and childlike writing.

Mint!
Love all the books but love this new direction. Always been a fan of Danny Black and John Porter and Bald but looking forward to more Josh Bowman stories. Anyone that reads this and enjoys Chris' work, I definitely recommend Life or Death with Chris Ryan podcast, cracking chat with amazing guests.

A great read, as always.
It’s so easy to look down on writers like Chris Ryan, especially if you have your nose up somewhere unmentionable. I find him criminally underrated. His books have the authenticity that most writers can only dream of getting. The plots are easy to follow and the action and dialogue believable. Chris’s books don’t require you to think; just to relax, read, and forget about all life’s other issues for a while. And isn’t that what a good book should always do?

Truly Awful
This book is just a rehash of the Zaire conflict (sort of) I should know as I was there. The characters are terrible, the banter between the team members is absolutely awful and they just repeat the same things over and over again. This is the worst book I’ve read in 20 years. Hopefully this guy doesn’t become a series character and we can get back to Danny Black.

Manhunter
I've read a few previous Chris Ryan books and enjoyed them so I had great expectations for this one. I was not disappointed. It was a great read . Initially it started slowly but the plot soon picks up & I found myself not able to put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great action story.
