Based on the Dark Horse comic, the premise of the story is that precincts full of undead police officers, who were corrupt during their living years, roam the earth as part of the Rest in Peace Department, rounding up dead people and keeping the living safe in exchange for a good word put in with "eternal affairs." Newly double-crossed officer Nick (Ryan Reynolds) and his long-undead partner Roy (Jeff Bridges), who died way back in the time of the Wild West, stumble upon a plot to reverse the flow of the one-way tunnel to the afterworld and suddenly find the entire future of the world in their hands. Their mission of containment has just become an all-out war against the dead. The characters in this film are quirky, and the fact that they appear to the living in very different bodies than their original forms adds plenty of comic moments, but the film is first and foremost an action movie. R.I.P.D. is a fun, over-the-top action comedy with great humor and entertaining performances. The Blu-ray disc works perfectly with good picture and sound quality. Not a serious movie, but a very enjoyable one and worth adding to the collection.

actually enjoyable movie -- a rarity with so much garbage from hollywood nowadays
Ive got to admit, this was absolutely hilarious of a movie -- and it is something that is a rarity nowadays in terms of movies produced. Without giving too much away, the contrast in the timeline careers of both RIPD agents is what makes this work.

Enjoyed it
I'll say right up front I've never seen a Men in Black movie (Will Smith leaves me VERY cold as an actor) so I don't know nor do I care if this film is similar (how many 'Hangover' type films have come out in the last few years, several of which are as good or better than the original?) but this film was quite enjoyable. Jeff Bridges is a hoot! Mary Louise Parker and he work so well together that I wish the movie had actually centered around them. Not to say that Ryan Reynolds isn't good here but there a reason he hasn't become the big star that many folks thought he would after The Proposal. He just doesn't bring enough depth to a role. I liked the humor and the silly plot didn't bother me a bit. Kevin Bacon's role seems a bit slight but Bacon is a very good actor who's had many underwritten roles and he knows how to overcome them. I wish James Hong and Marisa Miller's roles had been a bit expanded but the notion behind their roles is a pretty good one. This isn't a great film but it's a pretty good way to spend an hour and a half. I hope Bridges and Parker team up again soon in another movie. Recommended.

I love this movie!
I love Jeff Bridges! He is such a great actor in this film and i love how his character and the other cop guy interacted with each other and i was not expecting to see Kevin bacon himself in this but i was blown away at how good a movie this was. I actually loved the sequel to this but i wanna see Jeff Bridges come back if they decide to do a tv series about RIPD(like if we see who the big people-angels/ demons possibly- doing more battles against each other in different parts of the world that living beings can't access).
