ADAPTIL Dog Calming Pheromone Diffuser

I bought this product to use for my dogs. It is natural and it works. Put the diffuser in a room and it calms your dog. It’s a natural pheromone and calms your dog. It mimics a female Mom dogs smell when she lets down her milk and it naturally calms. Doesn’t work on all dogs but worth a try. I use it frequently

I purchased this from my Vets recommendation, they are in the exam rooms and seem to help other dogs. I thought my terrier mix would respond well to it. My dog was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2015 and has been seizure free for over 4 years until last week. I received the Adaptil diffuser on 10/7/19 and immediately plugged it in right next to Oliver's bed. He has his first seizure on 10/15/19. Put him on his emergency meds immediately and did some research on the ingredients of Adaptil to no avail. I removed the diffuser on Friday 10/18/19 in the morning. By the evening, his slip through seizures reduced dramatically in severity/intensity. No more shrieking, down to a soft cry to get through it. Today, 10/21/19, he's not had a seizure for almost 24 hours. I replaced air filters by his bed and will continue cleansing the air because it seems to be helping a lot. Manufacturer should disclose not good to use with epileptic pets. Unless they can claim test results proving otherwise. I'm still not sure of the ingredients and will be reporting my findings to my Vet to share with other pet owners.

My Buddy has always been something of an obsessive licker. He would lick and pull the hairs on his paws till he got through to his skin, and then lick his skin bloody if I didn't catch him. I've tried a lot of things, including prednisone, vet-prescribed allergy treatments (expensive!) requiring a skin test, lab results, and custom allergy drops twice a day, and, of course, keeping him coned so he can't hurt himself. This is the first thing that's actually worked. It took a few days to kick in, and then he just stopped licking. Some time later I noticed he was licking again and sure enough, the diffuser had run dry. I'm sure it doesn't work for every dog, but it's made a huge difference in my Buddy's life. I live in a condo and a have two: one in the bedroom area and one for the rest of the place. We're building a larger house and there's no question in my mind that we'll have several diffusers sprinkled throughout the house. It's a life saver!

I think the effectiveness of Adaptil calming diffuser may vary depending on the dog. In our case, we found the effectiveness to be marginal. However, it may work better for other dogs. On the plus side,the diffuser does not produce any odor which is great for people who are sensitive to smells. The diffuser is also easy to use and can be plugged into any standard electrical outlet. Overall, I don't regret trying this product as it does have some minor calming effect but I am not sure I will continue after the initial solution supply runs out.

At first, we were not convinced this worked. It's hard to tell. Our pack has been together for 5 years. We recently moved to a 10 acre property and though the dogs were going to love having the room to run and play. Our youngest did not handle the move well, and became aggressive and agitated. Dog fights were occurring regularly, and we even had injuries that required emergency vet attention. After consulting our vet, and a behaviorist, we decided to try this, along with other techniques provided to us by the behaviorist. The first 30 days passed and while we saw a decrease in aggression, we had made many other changes, so it was hard to tell. The diffuser ran out and we noticed an increase in agitation, but the weather was crappy and the pups weren't getting as much exercise as we like to give them, so we wrote it off. Then, our diffuser, despite having plenty of "liquid" stopped working. I didn't notice it, but I definitely noticed a distinct difference in agitation level. We had our first dog fight since the behaviorist had been out. One time may be a coincidence, but twice? I'm now convinced that this helps. From our experience, with our pack, I do not think we could have purchased this and made no other changes. This was part of many changes, and it is definitely assisting in decreasing the level of anxiety and agitation. This will remain part of our program at home. The ~$20 per month is far cheaper than the emergency vet bill, and behaviorist bills (I went into the wrong business!!). However, the new diffuser we purchased isn't working out of the box. I think we are going to switch to a collar on the instigator dog, and use the spray int he kennels of the other dogs. That way, we aren't reliant on diffusers that can malfunction, and stop working, without our knowledge. While I really liked the idea of the diffuser because we have 3 dogs and I believe it helps all of them, they don't seem to be reliable enough. If you go the diffuser route, I would suggest having an extra one on hand, just in case it stops working. They say 6 months for the diffuser itself, but we only got about 60 days out of the first one, and the second one hasn't worked at all. That is the only reason I am giving 4-stars. If we had better luck with the actual diffuser, it would be 5-stars.

This is not a magic pill but along with some patience, good training and a whole lot of love - our little boy has gotten comfortable and confident in his new home quicker than expected and I think this product played a significant part in making that happen

I hate to write a negative review as the seller was very prompt, the price was great, and it is of no fault of theirs. However, I have 4 dogs, 3 with high anxiety. I purchased this hoping it would help during the firework season and worse case scenario, at least for storms and anxiety while we were gone. We have had the diffuser plugged in for almost a month, and have seen no response or changes in any of our dog’s behaviors. I have a furbo camera and can watch them while not in the house as well and anxiety is still through the roof. Unfortunately, it has made no difference for our german shepherd, pit bull, lab mix, nor chihuahua.
