Beautiful!
A thing of beauty truly is a joy forever! You won’t be disappointed with the way this tea kettle looks. It boils an adequate amount of water per use. If you are looking to boil more than 24 ounces of water at a time, however, I would recommend a larger kettle.Read the directions on the proper care of this kettle before using it for the first time.It is such a joy to look at that, not only don’t I mind taking a little extra care with it, I want to!

Do follow the directions!
Little disappointed in the whistle of the bird, not quite as loud as I had hoped but over all I love the kettle and have been wanting one for years.

Pretty but not functional. CAUTION: Causes steam burns!!!
I’ve had my eye on this tea kettle for quite some time. It was finally time we got a new kettle and I splurged on this. For a pricey luxury tea kettle, I expected elegance, quality, and functionality. Sad to say elegance is just about its only quality.First of all, the whistle is quiet which I was happy that it wasn’t too loud; however you have to remove the plastic whistle in order to pour from the spout. Which is inconvenient. The whistle itself feels like cheap plastic and has an aluminum type spring that holds it in place on the spout. The first few times I boiled water I smelled a plastic-like burning smell and I reached out to the company to inquire about the quality of plastic used on the whistle. They basically said it was rated for heat and just to follow instructions. No further details were provided as to the type of plastic they used.I felt like this was not sufficient. Additionally, the kettle itself started rusting on the lid and the inside bottom after the second us. I used only RO water inside for boiling. The worst part of this kettle is that it has burned my hand twice now from steam. Removing the whistle leaves quite a large opening in the spout and HOT steam comes out of the spout when you remove the whistle after boiling and before pouring into a mug.Overall, I regret this purchase and wish I had went for one of the Japanese stainless kettles or the Le Creuset tea kettle. The design of this kettle needs safety and quality improvements.

Takes a beating but keeps on heating
Filled Kettle, turned on stove, went downstairs to do some work. Twenty minutes later remembered kettle still on hot stove. Rushed upstairs. Kettle empty. Kettle very hot. But ... kettle not damaged. True, the plastic material insulating the interior of the cap had melted and oozed out a little below the knob, and the chrome at the base had developed a slightly yellow tint, but the interior looked flawless. One new lid later, a little polish, and Mr. Kettle is back in service. So, do you need to spend $175 for a pot to boil water in? You might want to if you don't like shopping to replace things because they wear out, and you tend to be abusive of your kettle. The handle and whistle stay cool to the touch under normal use, and even under extreme conditions (see above) do not melt, change shape, or catch fire. It's durable, boils water quickly (some would say too quickly), and looks nice and shiny on the stove.Update - 02/28/2011Although still my first choice as a kettle, the Alessi is far surpassed in function and utility by the less costly Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer, Stainless Steel

This classic tea kettle will add a bit of flair to any kitchen!
I've wanted this tea kettle ever since I first saw it many many years ago. The whimsical yet modern design adds a great finishing touch to any kitchen. This is a piece that you will want to leave on your cooktop all the time as a great accent piece. Not only is the design fun but it is also a great tea kettle! The circular handle provides easy pouring and is mounted high enough to not interfere with filling the water through the top. The classic red bird whistle works just as you would expect it to. Some people may find that having to manually pull out the bird before pouring the water is an extra step compared to other kettles where the whistle simply flips up, but this doesn't bother me at all.The whole kettle looks great with a fantastic silver shine! This is definitely an extremely expensive item as far as function goes, but you are definitely paying for form over function in this case and the form is a classic that will look great in your kitchen! Highly recommended to anybody who is interested in art and design.

Forget the Bird
I bought this to replace the one I had before, which I had purchased at an authorized Alessi dealer and loved for many years, before destroying it by heating it on empty for *hours* (I forgot that I was making tea and neglected to deploy the cute birdy “whistle,” which as we all know is just a decoration anyway). The damage was only cosmetic, as the old kettle still works. The clear plastic oversized contact lens (the other design flaw, apart from the “whistle”), screwed atop the stainless-steel lid, melted all over it like lava, and the interior of the pot is a brown oxidized eyesore, but the old kettle still works and looks otherwise intact—a testament to good old-fashioned Italian craftsmanship and quality of material. I like that it sits flat on my glass induction cooktop. The price on the new one ($120 then, as opposed to $200 at Eataly) was sweet.

Beautiful peice of art and WONDERFUL teapot
This teapot has so many pluses. It is simply gorgeous and looks great on my rangetop. It whistles nicely, and pours just beautifully without any of that splatter! The top comes off and replaces with great ease for refilling the pot. Just gorgeous.
