Perfect for the busy hockey player/parent or those who don't have a good skate sharpener near by. Why trust your skates with the new kid at the shop when you can get your own pro-shop quality sharpen yourself with the Blade Barber? The Blade Barber Skate Sharpener uses a tungsten carbide blade to shave steel as it sharpens your skates. This is more than an edge touch up tool, it actually removes steel and sharpen skates. No other tool can replace a completely worn edge like the Blade Barber can.

Best tool for sharp edges on the market
This tool is a life saver, I use this before every other skate and I feel like I’ve got perfect edges each game. I’ve noticed if there isn’t enough downward pressure to keep the blade level, it will mess up the edge, so patience is key. I’d recommend this tool to anyone who likes having sharp edges, or who doesn’t have the luxury of being near a trusted sharpener.Having the Blade Barber takes the worry of “if I’m getting a good sharpening, at my hollow” away. I’m blown away that these tools haven’t found a place in all locker rooms yet.I’ve used mine for over a year, and I’ve gotten way more than the 25 sharpenings out of it. Granted, I try to routinely keep the edges, and that’s translated to way more confidence on the ice.Give it a shot, make sure to watch the instructional video, as it’s crucial to keep the tool level.

Works great
Used this halfway through a pond hockey tournament and it worked great for freshening up dull edges. This is a great solution for situations like this where it isn’t possible to get your edges done properly. Be sure to read the instructions the file works REALLY well, and if used improperly could seriously ruin your day.

Easy-to-use and does the job
The learning curve for this tool isn't steep at all. You'll be sharpening your skates in a few minutes. The only tricky part is ordering the correct model for the size of your roh (hollow). The rinks and pro shops I use to sharpen my skates never tell me which roh they put on my skates. I took a guess and ordered the 5/8" Blade Barber model, since that is the hollow that many hockey websites recommended for my weight and skating style. I don't think it was an exact match for the hollow on my skates, but it was close enough and I was able to sharpen them with no problems. I just had to take a few more strokes than the 3-4 the manufacturer recommends. I'm guessing I'll only need 3-4 strokes for the next sharpening.

It has already paid for itself, seriously!
We have synthetic ice at home and when we aren’t on the ice, we skate at home a lot! Due to the inherent nature of the home ice, the blades get dull rather quickly. The Blade Barber gives us our edges back! Do note, this isn’t a replacement for the pro shop, but it is definitely worth the money saved from having them sharpened at the shop at least once a week. If we only skated ice, I could see this extending the time in between to double. Also, after purchasing and using, I was approached to receive a small compensation for the review, but already had made up my mind to the value added before I was approached for this review. Regardless, I will always have the Blade Barber handy!

Works as advertised....
I'm an adult hockey player that has only been playing a year and prefer skates with sharp edges. This said, this tool is the perfect stop-gap between getting skates sharpened and keeping edges tight. The big thing to keep in mind is watch the video before-hand and you will be fine - the instructions are intuitive and easy to follow. If you are skating a couple hours a week and want a tool to keep your skates sharp between mechanical sharpening, then this tool is for you. I highly recommend this investment and am happy with my purchase.

Ok
Doesn’t seem to sharpen quite as well as I thought it would. It does work, I may have been expecting too much out of such a small device.

It's ok
It does the job but I find it very difficult to get a consistent stroke with the tool. It gets choppy at times but it still seems to give me a decent sharpening. I just with there was a honing stone on the back or side of the tool though.

1/2"ROH review
I bought the 1/2" roh model.I usually use "Edge Again" and a honing stone on my son's hockey skates. I also tried this one my own skates just as curiosity. My son plays in house league and I just skate leisure. We both noticed with the blade barber there is no question, we both felt a significant and noticeable bite in the skates. Not so much with the honing stones and other "edge again" product. For this product, I think there are GREAT reviews and "1 star" bad reviews for this product. I'm convinced this is a function of inability to use the product properly."THE TEST" ?I thought I try this product for myself : So? I brought the Blade Barber to the arena. I tried to skate myself WITHOUT any sharpening product, then I went to the bench, used just a honing stone product (A&R Re-edger) and went for a few rounds of skating. Then I came back to the bench, I tried a manual "EDGE Again" sharpening contraption and went for a skate. Then, I came back and tried this blade barber 1/2" ROH product and went for a skate."WHAT DID I FIND?"--- Blade barber had a significant noticeable difference in the bite. the 1/2" roh blade barber felt like I just got my skates sharpened from a store.--- The honing blade (A&R re-edger) was somewhat noticeable--- The Edge Again product was making my blade feel dull ; by the way Edge Again product was used a dozen times before though however they claim the inserts last 25-30 sharpenings so it should have been fine?So i fully support the "5 star" reviews on here. I think this is a decent product that actually works. It is so far the best sharpener DIY home product out there IF USED PROPERLY.I will make a point here, the instructions alert you to a youtube link that implores you to watch. I highly recommend watching and learning and practising before your make a judgement. I think it takes somewhat finesse and practice to make this product work well for you in-between proper professional sharpening's.Once a gain, I think a professional sharpening is a MUST but in-between, this product seems for me the one that makes the most impact on me, based on some tests and it is the one that makes my son tell me the skates felt "sharp".I hope this helps -- i tried my best to test this as objectively as possible.

It works!
This is a great tool to keep in your bag. It doesn't take long to figure out the technique. Very useful when you can't get to the shop for a machine sharpening. I have been very impressed with how well this tool works, it is exactly what I have been looking for for years now! Stay away from the V shaped skate tools, spend the extra money on this and take the time to learn how to use it and you will never be left without an edge on the ice!

Works as Advertised, saves from going in for a sharpening
Took a while to write this as I ordered the incorrect depth the first time, but thanks to some amazing customer service I was able to get the correct hollow for my liking.Using it does take some practice, but with some light pressure and good technique you can give your skates a nice edge as often as you like. I prefer mine to be a little less than 1/2" so after a fresh sharpening I let them dull then do a few passes with the BB when I need a "tune up".Great product for sure and I will forever have one in my bag now because playing without a good edge is not a fund experience at all! Use this to dial in just the right edge for you -- Get one.

Works just as advertised
All 3 kids play hockey and I’m getting tired of taking skates for sharpening (of course they never all need it at the same time!). I bought this hoping it would do the trick and it works great. My one son plays AA hockey in Kingston and I’ve spread the word to anyone who will listen!I watched the little video which was very helpful and found the black marker trick really allowed me to see what I was doing. Gentle pressure and keeping it flat seems to be the trick just like he says.Ill be buying two more for their hockey bags and I think I found my Xmas gift for friends and family!!

Surprenant
Surprenant. Pas une job à 100%, mais 75% disons. Mais tellement petit et facile que le ratio energie/gain est superbe.
