This low-cost pad has enhanced the lives of two elderly people whom I know, and has played an important part in reversing Stage 1 pressures sores for both of them. I hope it can help you avoid pressure sores in the first place. This pad has also reduced the discomfort of one person whose spine is now deformed. Here are some details.I ordered the first of two pads for my dad, who has a bad heart. He spends a lot of time in a recliner and started to develop a Stage 1 pressure sore on his tailbone. He is now using this pad in his recliner and has trained himself to shift positions 4x per hour. This has healed the Stage 1 pressure sore on his tailbone.On Sunday mornings I sit with the mother of a friend of mine whose spine is severely degenerated. She is no longer able to lie down because of an extreme spinal curvature, and as a result spends her days and nights in a recliner. I got her one of these pads and she uses it differently than my dad uses it. She is a very tiny woman (about 4'6") and so she sits on the thin side of the pad and leans on the thick side of the pad. We have customized the pad by cutting out two holes in the thick side. One hole is a long oval that goes through both layers of the thick side. This accommodates the protruding part of her spine, which had a Stage 1 pressure sore on it that is now entirely healed. We also cut a much smaller oval through the eggcrate layer only to accommodate her tailbone. Her tailbone had previously had a Stage 2 pressure sore that had already been healed to Stage 1 before we got the pad. Now that she uses the pad with the hole cut through the eggcrate layer of the thick side, the Stage 1 sore on the tailbone has also healed. This customized pad has also had a second benefit. Leaning back on her degenerated spine caused this lady a terrific amount of pain and discomfort. The use of the customized pad has changed this entirely. With the customized pad she is able to lean back in much less discomfort, which in turn allows her to sleep better. In addition to the customized pad, she uses a pellet-filled neck pillow that supports her head and neck in a healthy position.I am now ordering a third pad so that the lady with the spinal curvature can have a back-up. She just had a heart attack and is in the hospital recovering nicely. Her daughter (my friend) is ready for a back-up pad because she has had to take the original pad to the hospital.I hope these detailed descriptions can help you decide if this pad can help you or someone you know as much as it has helped my dad and the lady I sit with.

This egg crate cushion is one piece. The seat part is much thicker than the back. It fit my husband's wheelchair snugly as it was supposed to do. He refused to get in the wheelchair before I got this egg crate because he said the chair hurt his bum. He refused to use the wheelchair prior to getting this. He had a series of strokes that has left him unable to do much of anything without help. This cushion is great! I tried it out first. I was shocked at how comfortable it really was. I finally got my husband to try it telling him he didn't have to stay long. I got him in the wheelchair and he smiled and told me the cushion was comfortable. He wanted to stay in it. He began rolling himself around the house. He has a way to go before he can control it since one of his arms is very weak so this surprised me. This cushion EXCEEDS MY EXPECTATIONS. It took pressure off my husband's bum. He said it didn't hurt. The back part not ony cushions but helps improve his posture. He has regained the about to sit up by himself but his muscles need to get a lot stronger so he has a tendency to slump into very painful positions. It doesn't happen with this cushion. The foam makes slipping very difficult which also adds a level of safety. I'm very happy with this cushion. There was no cover offered to fit it. I solved that problem by following another reviewer's solution by using a king size pillowcase as a cover. It works great. I use the microfiber pillowcase instead of the cotton ones to maintain a surface that is less likely to cause him to slip around. I definitely recommend this cushion. It's not a cure all but it is a winning item used in his process slow towards my husband's recovery.

Very disappointed in how this did not hold its shape but was totally compressed in the first day.

Sorry for the late review, but I wanted to really use this awhile.Sorry but this "egg crate" style foam has broken down, & is not that supportive nor is it that comfortable. Yeah it's ok. It did it's job for awhile... but that didn't last long AT ALL ! The whole cushion now is a fraction of the original thickness ! I think the cushion was somewhere between 3 to 4 inches thick when I got it. And now it is about 1/2" to 3/4" thick in some areas and at most 3/4" to 1"thick.
