From someone who cares nothing about lawn care - this thing is AWESOME.
So like many I hate yard work. It's friggin hot in Florida. I have a kid that mows the front of the house but the back cannot be mowed because I have solar panels everywhere. Plus the kid just has a riding mower its not like he's doing the worlds best job. But I'm lazy, I have health issues that screw up my body and well it sucks. I bought this because I needed to do the backyard as well as clean up the front lawn. I had never heard of this company but the more research I did, it kept coming up as either a top choice or close. It had lots of good reviews so I said sure I'll try it! I was torn between which model to buy but ended up going with the top of the line one the 16" diameter with the automagic line release when chopping away. I always HATED putting line in my gas trimmer, it was always something and just was irritating. I liked that it came with line pre-loaded and how the system works to load new line when its time. It also came with an extra set of the yellow/orange line. So I went to town with this thing, I chopped down all kinds of weeds and edged the front of the house. You can kinda feel and even hear when the system releases more line. I'm a trained engineer and I'm very stumped on how it knows it needs to release line. I abuse my tools and this thing is a champ! The only major gripe I have is that they don't sell branded line in 16" diameter yellow/orange line replacement. They have 14 and 15 but no 16. Weird. So I bought their premium braided line which I will have to use one day. So far the line holds up well. The battery well its basically a 60V Lithium Ion setup that stores 300wh of power. I happen to have as a hobby batteries! (remember the solar? yeah) The battery life was approx 50 minutes give or take. If you let the battery sit a few mins in between jobs Li Ion batteries by their chemistry will slightly increase the voltage of the battery. The charger is nice and fast, I don't think its loud but I have all kinda of fans and gadgets with fans. Ironically I build Lithium battery packs to power parts of my own, that recharge via solar. So I thought to myself "what if I built a bigger battery and stored it in like a backpack? Guess what the company sells!!! They have a backpack style power system but its not using a different battery. So I picked up a backpack and cut away everything I was only interested in the wire and the connection system. I used Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries(LFP) which are safer than Li-ion. And I built a mega battery that stores around 3kWh of power. So I gained 10X power. Of course that pack is heavy so its more of a 'I wonder if I can do it' but its nice not to ever worry if I'm going to run out of power. I also got the strap for it, mostly for my g/f. Bleh its ok its not the best and I bet one of my rifle slings would do better lol. Some things to remember for safety about Liion batteries. NEVER leave them. completely discharged for a long time, now I'm sure the battery management system on-board takes care of this by calling out "dead" at a safe voltage for storage. Rule of thumb for extended store for those type of batteries is to store them around 30% full. It's actually not great to store it completely charged either for long periods of no use. This is true for your Telsa, and anything else using LFP and Li-ion batteries. Also best practice is the wait a bit before charging it after you just ran it for 50 minutes. If you can, give it 2-3 hrs of rest before recharging it will make your battery last much longer if you follow basically rules of Lithium based batteries. I'm a battery nerd I told ya, engineer, and solar DIY hobbyist. Do not charge or leave your battery somewhere that gets crazy hot OR cold. I'm very happy I went with I call a 'no-name brand' trimmer. Even though it sounds like it IS a name brand up there with DeWalt and the others. I really do hope they make more of the pre-cut 16" string. It's a PITA to cut sting, drop it hot water to get it uncurled and then feed it into the trimmer. I love the already cut stuff!! String seems to be lasting well, I beat it hard. I have had "delayed" automatic line release happen a few times. I'm talking 2-3 minutes tops. I don't think you can go wrong w/this brand and exact model. I love it. Beats my gas powered one that would just leave me stinking of gasoline exhaust and had to deal with the stupid line. Plus the gas powered one likely doesn't work anymore its been sitting rotting for a long time. I may try to take the engine out of it and see if I can play with it. Yeah I wrote a book. I do that sometimes. Whatever. Yellow/orange line = 5/5 Automagic line release = 4.9/5. (only cause of that delay sometimes) Weight = 5/5 (and I have a bad back) Toughness = 5/5 Cutting through deep stuff! - 5/5 Strap = 2/5 Battery = 5/5 (50 min runtime is respectable) Charger noise = 5/5 (I dont think its loud but YMMV) Cost = 4/5 Overall = 5/5

Great trimmer!
This weed eater is an absolute unit! I was very hesitant to buy electric as I remember when I was a kid the electric mower we had sucked. Needless to say the technology has come a long way since then! So far I’ve been very impressed with this weed eater! It takes a little getting used to as compared to gas but once you do it’s straight power which I love. Yesterday I stress tested it as we had a section of our property that had gotten rather long and overgrown. I figured that would be the perfect opportunity to test it! The weed eater ate right through even some of the thickest brush! I was very impressed! I will say to the battery is very good! I was able to do 3 properties with it before it was low on battery! I think for my needs this will do me very good! String also auto extends which is cool! Length is nice because you can extend or shrink the unit! Overall the unit just works well and the design is well thought out! In terms of ease of use it doesn’t get much better than this unit! If you are hesitant about buying one like I was I’d encourage you to just press the order button!

Durable over 3 years and counting. "Good enough" that you won't look back. Decent tool.
I've used this for 3 years and have had no trouble whatsoever. I have 6 acres and use this moderately along our woods. I like how easy it is to load new string. I just thread the entire length through (this is simple), even both ends so that the head is in the middle, and then press the button which auto-winds the string pulling it in evenly. Absolutely easy. Is it the "best" of the Ego products? I don't think so... pretty good for a trimmer, but my wife would like it to be lighter, shorter and with more features (for trimming along an edge like a driveway or pond). This is a decent trimmer, and I have not gone back to my wired trimmer at all. Like other Ego products I own, this one is good enough to ditch my former gas and electric tools. Is it worth $300+? I'm not sure. I like the convenience of interchanging batteries, so I'm probably paying a premium unnecessarily if all you need is a trimmer. If you have other Ego products, then this is a no-brainer and useful to add. I don't use the speed function, it just doesn't feel relevant. I wish this was just one more head attachment to the Power Plus tool (like the hedge trimmer and tiller). I would give this 4.5 stars if I could... good enough and durable over the yeas and reliable. Not the fastest, lightest etc. but "good enough".

Plenty of Power...Seems Well Made.
I have commercial experience with lawn equipment and am now retired. My fishing cabin property is about 1/3 acre and I have had good results with an EGO Speed IQ mower and 765 CFM blower. Since I wanted to stay away from gas equipment at this property, I recently chose this EGO 1623T Trimmer with Line IQ. My candid review is positive, with noted differences (some negative) to my commercial Echo Gas Trimmers. This unit is heavier and less maneuverable than my 2 stroke gas equivalent. That said, it's still manageable for this residential property. The head rotates opposite, but not an issue for me. The Line IQ feature is innovative and convenient, but be advised there is a bit of a learning curve. Since the line automatically advances, beware that it is much harder to avoid objects like tree trunks and sign posts, etc. In contrast, the bump style heads advance manually, and thus the bitter end of the rotating line is easier to gauge around tight, delicate places. I believe I will get better controlling the Line IQ over time and with more experience. Also, note that this unit does NOT come with a shoulder strap. After one use, I purchased the EGO shoulder strap on Amazon. Because of the the weight of this unit, I think that EGO should have added the shoulder strap to the package. Oddly, there was a nice shoulder strap clip included, but no strap. In summary, I do recommend this trimmer for residential use. Compared to a gas unit, it has plenty of power and good throttle response. The 56v, 4.0 amp hour battery had no problem completing the trimming task on a single charge at this property. I definitely suggest purchasing the shoulder strap because of the weight, especially at the power head. In my opinion, this unit would still be fatiguing if used all day by a commercial lawn crew. Regarding the EGO Warranty, since Amazon is an authorized EGO Dealer, I had no problem adding the trimmer, charger, and battery to my other EGO Warranty Registrations. I did not use the cell phone scan code on each unit, but went to their website. I did upload a picture of my Amazon Sales Invoice, as proof of purchase.

Great trimmer!
Love this trimmer! Pros: Powerful and battery life is pretty good. Mostly use it on low on full throttle on thicker weeds. For even thicker stuff you could use high setting but drains battery quicker. Love the ease of feeding line and auto feed of line is an awesome feature. Cons: It is a little heavier than my Ryobi trimmer but so worth it. Have never used anything else so idk if the weight of this is better than other brands. Honestly the battery is as heavy as the trimmer. Does go through string pretty quick. Prefer to use actual Ego line, because other brand line doesn’t seem to feed properly or well. Overall it is a great trimmer. I got it on sale with the extra battery for $299.

Awesome
Like others have said, this is an awesome for a string tool in taking down tall grass, weeds and small stalk bushes. I did not find it hard to use at all and bought the strap thinking it would be heavy and it was not for me and I am 70 years old. I used it for an hour and half but did have to charge the battery in between twice. I like the fact that the battery is strong all the way until it needs charging. And it charges quickly. I got about 30 - 40 min per charge but was using it in the high power mode as my grass and and weeds were thick. The string loading is cool and easy and I never had it jam. I took the bottom cover off to check when my string ran out to make sure it really did and there was none left. The only downside I see is that a string only lasts for about 20 minutes or so. And that was not going against any concrete walls so it does wear down quicker than I thought it would given its thickness. Maybe it would last longer in less dense grass and weeds. But overall, A+ as it will not disappoint you in how quickly this takes stuff down. Be careful as it does throw stuff tens of feet so goggles and long pants are a must and make sure no one else is around. I had a stone or something bounce back and put a cut in my arm as this is very powerful. Maybe they should consider making the shield a little wider as it is narrower relative to others I have used in the past. But as I said, 100% satisfied with its performance! It is pricey but worth it as it is pretty effortless to use given the automatic string deployment.

Weaknesses outweigh its strengths
I find a number of significant shortcomings with this trimmer. I have been using trimmers for many decades, and my favorites have been Stihl, Echo and Husqvarna. I still use two of those on a frequent basis. I purchased the Ego for the ability to start instantly, avoid the need for gasoline, and reduce noise levels. It does all of those three things admirably. However, I found four shortcomings that are deeply annoying: 1. the head spins in a clockwise direction (as seen from above), which is the opposite of every professional trimmer I have used. If you haven't used another trimmer much in the past, this may not be a problem for you. But if you have, you will find this to work much differently, and it will be a mild but constant annoyance. 2. The head is at a flatter angle to the shaft than other trimmers I have used. This means that I have to hold the whole unit at a steeper angle than others, which is another mild but constant irritation. 3. The head spins at a slower rate than the gas powered trimmers I have used in the past, which cuts somewhat slower, but also tends to be more "grabby" in any kind of long grass – making it harder to have precise control. 4. The automatic line feed is far more annoying than helpful for me. I had hoped that it would keep the line length fairly constant, but it does not. The line becomes quite short before it feeds, and then is instantly at full length. This causes two problems. First when the line becomes quite short it cuts poorly and slowly, and second, when it suddenly lengthens you may cut into something you had no desire to hit – like a tree trunk or vegetation at the edge of the grass. Edit: the head now feeds way too much additional line so that large sections simply get cut off when the line extends. Pieces from 1 inch to 12 inches end up being wasted and scattered on the grass. This head simply doesn't work well, at least my copy. Overall, I would not recommend this trimmer. It's shortcomings significantly outweigh its benefits. I have not tried other electric trimmers, but it performs much less well than a good gas trimmer, at least for now.

Powerful and great tech
I have only used it once but, so far so good. The setup was easy. It only took about 10 or 15 minutes. I would advise reading carefully all of the manuals. In terms of operation this thing is very powerful. It's just about as powerful as my previous gas-powered one. In terms of length of time the battery lasts, it lasted me about 35 minutes before it was on its last battery blip which was red. That being said I've got almost half of an acre of property and a lot of areas needed to be weed whacked; this was my first usage of a weed wacker in a while and I had to use a lot of power from it so, I imagine in regular rotation? This thing probably can last about closer to 50 or 60 minutes. What surprised me the most so far with my use was how it just simply knew when to feed more line; I didn't have to bump it, and right when I started to think I needed to, it suddenly spewed out more line and it was great. I don't have any feedback on the auto wind feature, but from what I've seen in review videos that should be simple. Also as a side note, they give you information on how to easily register your product and get a hold of their customer support if needed, and specifically state that it's United States and based in Michigan: so you're going to speak to all Americans when you call, and that is fantastic. UPDATE: I've had this for little while now this season and it's still great. I've used the auto wind feature and it is beautiful and so easy. The battery lasts beyond the 35 minutes with less high use and I stupidly left it out in the rain and it still works great. This is a very solid product.
