Paranoid Android
I'll try to keep it spoiler free. This collection of shorts is absolutely fantastic, regardless of whether you've seen the other VHS's.It contains a short that explores a "mad doctor" who has found a way to replace the human brain with a synthetic one - and attach sharp metal objects to the body in the meantime. This single short is one of the most human, most terrifying segments of film I've ever seen, and the "cyborg Death's Head" creature that awakens after the alarm triggers and begins to marauder through the Jakarta police squad is still haunting my dreams, a week after viewing.I can still hear his footsteps pounding unexpectedly down the hallway. The rest of the shorts are all great but this one really gripped me. You feel empathy for the cyborg girl, yet terrified of her counterpart, while it meets out justice for the dead doctor.Much to love about this collection!

Stands on its own - Great addition to V/H/S franchise
I was hesitant to rent this, the reviews were either 1 or 5. Honestly, it's neither. If you enjoy the Found Footage genre it'll be like a 3.5-4. Definitely worth a watch. If you don't enjoy them, then like a 2? But if you don't enjoy FF and watch this...what are you even doing rating it? That's like me coming to your house to rate your "My little Pony" videos. I wouldn't waste my time!As usual each film has a different atmosphere, setting and characters. In each segment I would say that the particular director did a good job setting the atmosphere and providing visually compelling settings with appropriate use of cameras to provide solid POV.The prologue/epilogue were not as fleshed out as they normally are, but it was to the point and held its own. I personally enjoy the little details that are normally included at these parts, I'd say this was probably one of the weaker parts of the film to be honest, Id have preferred maybe something a bit more crazy? There seemed to be a lot more gore here, very little in the way of suspense type additions, mostly monster oriented type films, which was fine.I saw someone complaining about the use of "cults" in these films, but there was only one and a militia (not a cult). The crazy chicks don't count, they are more like serial killers and then there is the doctor, but he was basically a mad scientist. It felt like the people who put this together wanted quality, and I really appreciate that (Please do this for the next one...PLEASE!), and if you can make it longer, that would be great also.I much prefer monster/alien/supernatural/cult sort of found footage. Its hard to pull off suspense or an extremely potent atmospheric sense in these types of short films. But for the time given in each one of these the editing was done superbly, I cant think of a scene where I'd want them to cut or re-edit it for clarity, I understood what was happening each time and found the mystery they created by not explaining every single detail interesting in itself. The camera work was never obnoxious or sickening. I never heard and endlessly screaming person or someone blowing snot bubbles for 10 minutes in a closet as u hear weird sounds. It was well paced throughout and the characters acted appropriately. The last one, which depicted the militia as dumb hicks was good in that it added some humor to the additions but gave a plausible rationale for how things went. The subject had a bit of a run holding your perspective at everything but the ultimate main character, but overall it was a strong entry. The sewer scenes and monster were interesting and mysterious. The empty wake was just downright mysterious, leaving you wondering what's occurring in the world (I like when they do that, like in the one about summoning a demon from a previous VHS).Found footage fan rating (subtract 1-2 stars for each if you don't enjoy this genre):Prologue/epilogue: 3 - 3.5Storm Drain: 3.5 - 4The Empty Wake: 3.5 - 4The Subject: 3.75 -4Terror: 3.5 - 4Its absolutely worth watching on PRIME. I rented this for 3.99 in Standard Def. and it was completely worth it at that price for me.

Unimpressive found footage
I’ve seen all the other VHS movies. This one didn’t do anything new or innovative. Kind of a step backwards. But still if you like found footage lots of interesting stories with subtitles

Worst Entry in the Series
I enjoyed the first V/H/S quite a bit. It's clear that they took everything that made that movie great and heaved it out the window. Terrible stories with a blatant agenda and bleak nihilism abound. The writers clearly make no bones about misunderstanding what makes decent horror almost as badly as they misunderstand the worldviews they attempt to lampoon. And the icing on the cake is the special forces group that's so inept they get wiped out by half finished monstrosities. It's ridiculous how horror writers seem to think no special forces units get any training. They act like someone handed a gun and uniform to a random guy off the street. "Oh, a monster with blade arms. Let me walk toward it while firing my weapon." Ridiculous. When horror writers put a political message ahead of their story telling, you get garbage like this.

V/H/S 94
