Not quieter, but moves more air. I'm glad I chose this one.
This fan feels like good quality. It's sturdy and stands well on it's own with the built-in feet. Comparing to my cheapy $20 Walmart fan, this definitely moves more air BUT it is not quieter and if anything it is slightly louder. The product description used "quiet" all over the place and some of the other reviews mention how quiet it is and I don't believe it for a second. Using an unreliable dB meter on my phone both fans produce close to the same levels. This new fan seemed louder but I'm sure of what I am hearing is the different sound the blades make. Where the cheap fan showed 70dB, this fan was closer to 72dB on the highest setting. On the minus side of this review; I have to mention that having the speed knob on the front makes it difficult to change speeds with one hand without pushing it over. Also I must mention that the speed level numbers are barely visible. I grabbed my metallic Sharpie and colored the numbers and the near invisible pointer. I think this was good value and I hope it lasts longer than the last higher priced fan that died 2 months out of warranty. I would purchase this again.

(UPDATED 9-Aug-2018) High Setting Turns Air Flow Up To 11!! Even Low Setting Loud For A Bedroom, Seems Well Made
When it comes to moving air I'm very pleased with my new Hurricane box fan. It moves an impressive amount of air and I believe it meets the impressive 2,400 cubic feet per minute rate on high. Even on its lowest setting this fan moves a lot more air than my old fan set on high! And, I thought that one was pretty good. When it comes to Noise I'm not so much. That's the apparent tradeoff for moving a lot of air. The Hurricane on its lowest setting makes quite a bit more noise than my older fan on high. It's too noisy for me in a bedroom fan but that depends on how much noise you can tolerate.I think it's important to point out that the noise seems to come entirely from the fan blades through air. My old fan was almost silent for this kind of noise, but vibrated quite a bit. That noise carried through the walls and I could hear it running in other rooms. Not so with the well balanced Hurricane. It seems noisy but just in the room where it's running. The Hurricane was surprisingly smaller than the old metal frame one it replaces. Both are described as 20in fans but with the Hurricane it appears to refer to the outer box dimensions. On my older fan it refers to the blade diameter. The Hurricane is also very thin: about half the thickness of my old fan. That's a real plus when you are placing a fan on your window sill! The Hurricane's box is almost all plastic with some metal reinforcing. So are the sleekly curve blades. It sounds cheaply made to describe, but I was impressed with the quality of construction. It also does not seem to vibrate noticeably when it's running. I think it will last very well. Good engineering I think. In my application I am using it in a upstairs windows to pull air through the one room upstairs in my old New England cape style home. Essentially as an exhaust fan. I used some eye hooks and a bungee cord to hold it tightly in window. With the fan on low I can be in the middle of the room and feel the air flow distinctly. When it comes to moving air I'm very impressed. Noise level, not as much.In conclusion, this box fan moves more air than any other I looked at locally. On low it moves much more than my old fan on high! But it's noisy for a bedroom or living space. Even when on low. Construction is very good and I think it will last years if not decades. It's much more compact than other box fans I looked at. II'm torn between 4 and 5 stars. No half stars on Amazon so I'm giving it 4 stars. It's an impressive box fan but even on its lowest setting it's is pretty noisy.UPDATE 9-Aug-2018:This fan has continued to exceed my expectations. It really moves a lot of air. I rarely want to use it above the low settings, but when I do it delivers moving air thought my attic bedroom and cooling it down from the day's heat (this is an attic room!). Yes, it is noisier than my previous fan. It took a little while but I'm used to it now and no longer concerns me, at least on low.Considering how much air this fan moves I have reconsidered the noise level and I'm not upgrading my Hurricane box fan to 5 stars. I'm even more pleased than when I wrote the original review and raising my ranking to 5 stars. It's an impressive fan.

Powerful, Quiet, and Perfect for Any Room
The Hurricane Classic 20" Floor Fan is exactly what I needed. It moves a ton of air—2400 CFM is no joke—and still manages to stay relatively quiet, even on the highest speed. I’ve used it in my garage, bedroom, and office, and it performs perfectly in all settings. The 3-speed settings are easy to adjust, and the fan is sturdy and well-built. It’s also portable enough to move around wherever I need it. Excellent value for the power and quality—it really keeps spaces cool efficiently. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable, high-airflow fan!

Not sure it's worth the premium
I used to have box fans from hardware stores that are from cheap to a lot cheaper. They were sufficiently strong in blowing air and were indestructible for occasion use. I used to have one for outdoor pets. I forgot about it in years leaving it to the elements. It still works but shakey.I am building an air purifier cube so I got the maximum CFM that I can find. But I doubt if this should be the prime factor. Because the wind noise is too much if you sit near it doing some quiet work. Say, it's unsuitable for a family dinner at maximum speed.I cannot open the fan up to clean it. The guards are assembled by plastic tabs as in electronics. They are very tough so I don't want to force it open in the wrong way to avoid damaging something. The need to clean it is minimal because the air is filtered by HEPA-grade filters. But I want to get the electric cord from the back to the front. If I cannot do this, I have to find a way to get the cord out of the cube. I don't fancy cutting the cord, drilling the fan housing, the filters, or the bottom of the cube. Now since the corner of the box fan is rounded, I can always allow a small hole for the cord to get out.Yes, the wind noise is strong but I remember my other box fans were similar. The motor noise isn't noticeable. But it is very efficient compared to my other DIY filters. I have an over 200 CFM computer case filter. At 1/10 of the airflow, it has to be close by me to be efficient. It's the same - can't enjoy a movie with it on. The noise is much less when I switch from 12V to 5V.I also have a 6" booster duct fan well over 200 CFM. Again the wind noise is disturbing at maximum speed. It's slightly worse because it's in a duct and you can hear the wind hitting the duct. I have a 4" 100 CFM duct fan and it's just as bad.My conclusion is that if you want to move air, the bigger the fan the quieter it is. If the fan diameter is half as much, the speed of the air has to be 4 times higher. Also, I agree with someone that the airflow at the corners is backward. As a fan, it doesn't matter at all. As a filter, the round corners can be covered by pieces of cardboard.

Overall Very Good
Very trim and light. Powerful and effective. Slightly louder than I expected but overall a very good fan.
