Q: Any advice on how to use sensors on a metal mailbox? The metal seems to be disrupting the magnetic sensors from working.

I would mount the magnetic sensor INSIDE the metal mailbox, route the wire thru a small hole UNDER the mailbox, and mount the TX transmit device inside a small weather proof external plastic box.this could be mounted on the side of the post holding the mailbox, not seen from streets. The cost would be minimal. The sensor would take up minimal footprint inside the mailbox, the wires secured/routed to the mailbox metal via silicon glue, keeping them out of the way. This is what I would do, personally. Hopefully, this will give you ideas to consider.
