Beware the demon hiding underneath...
Admittedly, it could be argued that most scrolling shoot 'em ups lack a lot of variety (see stuff, blast it, and don't get hit), but Saint could definitely try a lot harder. Games like Gradius fill levels with detailed and themed obstacles that keep things fresh, but Saint just re-skins the same kind of enemies and changes the patterns in predictable ways. The art may look pretty at times, but that basically sums up the game: Pretty backgrounds that don't change the gameplay at all while you shoot stuff. You'd probably be able to sleep through the monotony, except the game has a bad habit of filling the screen with so many bullets that it is literally impossible to avoid taking multiple hits in your huge cloud-riding character that can't fit through the gaps. This is annoying, since the only interesting weapons you get are lost when you die, and this problem quickly gobbles them up.The levels where you fly toward the center of the screen are just bad. I could hear my NES Gyruss cart crying in my rec room every time I played one of these. I found some of the boss fights intriguing at first, but since you must scroll the screen yourself during these fights by moving in the direction you wish to reveal, you will find yourself bumping into the bosses all too often in an attempt to aim your shots at them. The idea of big boss areas isn't terrible, but without the ability to lock your shooting direction, it just turns out bad.On the other hand, if you want a cheap laugh, the price (at the time of this writing) is certainly right if you snag a used copy. I kind of think of it liking renting a game like I used to in the old days. Some games were bad - I remember that. Only this time I got to keep it. Sweet! I think.

Oh lord...
As someone who likes terrible games, this is the cream of the crop. The graphics look awful and would even be a step back for SNES, the control is atrocious and the music is repetitive garbage. For the price, I would recommend this game just so you can experience the turmoil I went through with this game.

What year am I in?
So this game, after seeing it in the bargin bin everywhere--Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and several other places, I decided to order it from Amazon and see just why it is constantly being sold so cheap. I read the reviews for it and I didn't really want to make any judgments until I got a chance to actually play it.The conclusion is that 1 star is too much for this game... I couldn't believe I actually paid someone to ship the game to me... I played from one end to the other in one sitting, hoping for the game to show me something that I wouldn't have seen in a game from the early 90s. But it never did. All of the levels looked alike and all of the gameplay felt the same. I feel like I was back being a little kid sitting in an arcade trying to put in enough tokens to finish a stupid game that I didn't even like, but just finished anyway because it was there. That was exactly how I felt with this game. Was this game actually made and released in the latter half of the last decade? I suppose so. I can't believe they thought they could actually sell a game like this...

Terrible, terrible game
My wife bought me this game for Christmas from the discount pile (I was with her). We both thought, "Hey, this game's pretty cheap, and it's a Wii game, so it can't be THAT bad." Man were we wrong.First off, I loved reading plot exposition going across the screen TEN YEARS AGO. Even the games we got our children, while having script going across the screen, included voice overs. Add that to the fact that the exposition was set to still frame pictures and you start thinking, "Oh no. What have I bought?"Then, the game starts and all hope of an even passable fun time go right out the window. I haven't played a side-scrolling shooter game since Mega-Man 1. Even the other Mega-Man games allowed more movement. Wait, I take that back. Mega-Man 1 allowed you to pick the world to visit. Saint doesn't. So, it's more comparable to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. FROM THE ORIGINAL NES!!!Now, graphics. I haven't seen these level of graphics since the original NES. They were fine 20 years ago, but given the possibilities of the Wii console, this game was wildly disappointing. It looked exactly like a pixalated NES game. Eight bit graphics. Handled the same too. Turn the controls sideways and play with the old controller.I could see this game being sold over the Wii channel for a buck or two at the most. But the price listed above is WAY too much. If you want to see how bad it is, borrow it from a friend who didn't do their research in advance, like me. You'll save yourself a lot of grief and money.By the way, played for about five minutes before I hung it up.P.S. The only reason I gave this game one star was to get this rating posted. Apparently Amazon doesn't think it sells zero-star items. :D

A Fallen Saint. Stay Away!
Two things are good about this game. The art direction and the music. The game engine is bad and has horribly outdated SNES mode 7 mini stages when the characters travel to the next battlefield. The developers give you a large lifebar to balance out the awkward mash of bullets regular enemies spit. The game is boring rather than challengeing though. And if you buy it your really just being a sucker for anything 2D, its really shallow with only one button to fire, there is no reason to play saint.
