1940's Hairstyles You Can Do

It is a wonderful book for vintage hairstyles. The large print and picture examples make it easy for anyone to understand.

And wow, it really matters which way you spin those pin curls! Great photos and diagrams. I checked out several of this type of book from the library and learned a lot, but didn't feel the urge to actually buy any except this one. The guy that wrote the book had his own salon in LA during the 1940's with movie star clients (and their movie wigs).

Honestly, this reminded me of a beauty book that someone just photocopied the pages out of. It isn't very informative unless you have absolutely no experience with styling hair. These also had a bunch of steps they one doesn't need to accomplish the styles. This really wasn't worth the $. Try another book!

I appreciate the compiler's efforts in making a reprint of this rare material available, since it's near impossible to find original 1940s guides. That said, the quality of the original scan or the printing leaves a little to be desired. The halftone dots are visible to varying degrees on every page taken from the original, even in the background (which is optimally supposed to be white), and this makes the text a little fuzzy and hard to read and the pictures a bit dark. This is also a touch expensive for the length, which is the stated 40 pages only if you include blanks, one-sided pages and full-page section markers. I counted 21 pages of actual content (including the copy of the original cover). Otherwise it's beautifully illustrated, offers clear pincurl set instructions for 12 iconic 40s styles, and starts off with a brief but helpful illustrated intro to techniques.

Just exactly what I was hoping for. A simple guide to 1940s hair. I appreciate the publisher for providing a copy of a decent manual on hair. When one can't find an original copy of a publication, a good reproduction is the next best thing.

This is not an extensive tomb with explicit instructions for how to achieve these hairstyles. You will need a stylist who knows how to cut your hair to best achieve these effects. Nor does it provide extensive instructions on the techniques required (the various types and ways of pincurling hair to achieve different effects, for instance). However, if you already possess this basic knowledge this book will show you how to create about a half dozen or so of the most iconic hairstyles from the 1940s. Enjoy!

Instructions are not easy to follow, cheap quality book, I understand that this is a reproduction, but for the price it looked like a children’s book. It also didn’t have as many varieties of styles as I was hoping for, and I wish I had returned it

Ich habe bei der Bestellung ein gutes Buch erwartet, doch meine Erwartungen wurden sogar übertroffen. Es ist sehr schön aufgearbeitet. Es bietet ganz tolle Anleitungen für Frisuren und wie man das entsprechende "wet-set" dafür legt. Ich bin sehr zufrieden und kann es ohne Bedenken weiterempfehlen.

I find it difficult to find these vintage hair instructional images. It's convenient to have a few in this book.

I really liked how this books had a range of different styles and has visual examples as well as text to show you how to set and dress hair. Only wish it had more styles
