The Pacific Ocean Perch (POP) is found throughout the North Pacific Ocean, but is found most abundantly around British Columbia, the Gulf of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. They can be found between 150-420m in depth. The Pacific Ocean Perch will spend most of its life in deeper waters, but will head into shallower waters during the summer for their feeding season. This fish is also known as the Pacific Rockfish, Rose fish, Red Bream and Red Perch. POP can grow to around the age of 98 years, making it one of the longest living fish in the world. Due to its long maturity rate, fishing throughout the Pacific for POP is highly controlled. This allows natural stocks to sustain themselves while keeping a strong fishery. Flavor and texture wise, POP can be compared to Atlantic Red Snapper. It can often be confused for Red Snapper due to its look and red skin color. A major difference between the two is location. Red Snapper is found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico while POP is found in the Pacific Ocean. POP has a naturally gray colored meat. The meat is flaky like that of Pacific Cod, but it has a more prominent flavor. That being said, POP is considered to have a light flavor overall
