Dattatreya

RIGOPOULOS Antonio studies the emergence of the Hindu deity Dattatreya from its Puranic emergence to an immortal Guru and Yogi. Significantly, Dattatreya's catalyzing beyond the boundaries of Hinduism, also being linked to popular Sufism and Jainism, and his influence in the poetry of William Butler Yeats and T.S. Eliot. The author has referenced Dattatreya's teachings in Puranas, Upanishads, and Tantra. Three chapters have been devoted to the Sri Guru Charitra, the Avadhuta Gita, and the Tripura Rahasya. Great effort and a very good read for anyone interested in Yoga, Vedanta, Agamas, and Lord Dattatreya.

Very interesting over all, though sometimes descending a little too deep into academic murk.

A difficult to find book for a good price. Appears brand new, great condition.

This book started out as an academic dissertation and it shows. There's a lot of sanskrit vocabulary that the author simply assumes the reader is familiar with. Overall I'm glad I got this book, but I wish it was friendlier to the non-academia crowd.
