Works well and fixed my issue.
2012 Mercedes C250. Remove key notice and no start. Cleaned the gears and inside on the ESL. Applied new grease and the new motor. Put everything back together and no warning lights. Sounds strong.

Good luck.
Replacing just motor saves huge amounts of time and money. If you have a Mercedes that doesn't start, and tells you to remove the key on the information display, But the key fob function normally " lock and unlock". Than Mostlikely it's just the motor inside the ESL MODULE "electronic steering lock" that's failed. Removing disassembly and replacing the motor in the module is straight forward. You can Google the repair procedure. Tackling this job for the handy novice shouldn't be a problem. You're going to need some basic tools such as sockets, Hex keys and torx bits both inverted type and standard. Allowing yourself a couple of hours from start to finish. Not only fixing it yourself will Save you possibly several thousands in repair costs. Mercedes dealerships won't repair the ESL. They only replace the complete unit. Here's the usual failure sequence. It starts with intermittent random no starts. Finally no start, and the dreaded message that pop's up on the information center. Telling you to remove your key. You're repair procedure usually starts with you calling your trusted local mechanic. (he's so nice) And tells you the tow truck on it's way. Only to get a call from your friendly mechanic telling you he scanned it but unfortunately it has to go to the dealership. Why dose it have to go to Mercedes you ask ? He tells you the something wrong with streeing lock. Moving on to the next day, Now the 2nd tow charge. It's off to the dealership. They start their diagnostics and concluded it needs a new ESL module, and possibly a new EIS " the ignition switch" and possibly a new key. The service writer reminds you about the installation of new parts can only be done at Mercedes-Benz because it's a theft device. And must be coded to match the vehicles other computers. Not to mention you might need a possible rental car because the parts are on back order. You see where I'm going with this story. Is it bringing back a nightmare scenario? Give it a try yourself I'm sure you're pocket book will thank you for it. Plus there's a personal satisfaction of making the the repair yourself. Note: replacing only the motor in the ESL requires no programming. That's the beauty of it. Good luck.

Replaced the OE motor, cheaper than the ESL
The OE had chugged through its brushes. This is a great way to remedy that issue. I did not reinstall the ESL on the steering column, because it’s redundant. Eventually I may replace the ESL with an emulator unit, but this handily solved a multiple hundreds of dollars Mercede—Benz problem for Pennie’s on the dollar.

Save a ton of money but be careful
Fixes ESL issues associated with motor brush failure. If the unit failed in unlock position make sure to disconnect the battery with the key turned to on to prevent nec lock. If this replacement does not fix the problem more than likely the nec chip has been flagged with OXAA and you have to have it reset with mb software.

Also works on a c230 2008 (w204) no reprog. To do. just be carefull when you put back the motor you will have 2 switches to close and it will determinate the key on (or the park on the motor)Fonctionnne aussi avec un c230 2008 (w204) pas de reprogramation de clef a faire, simplement faire attention car vous avez 2 micro switch dans le module a mettre a ON avant de remettre le moteur pour indiquer au systeme que le systeme est au debut de son cycle.33$ beaucoup mieux que 1500$ au dealer...

Mercedes ESL woes. Worked perfect!
Arrived quickly. If you follow YouTube guides on replacing the ESL motor this will be very straight forward. My ESL failed, once I had the unit out and replaced the motor. My car turned on first try. Just make sure to pay attention to whether or not your steering is locked.
