Fun nostalgia -- and sauerkraut balls!
This book is fun to read for the nostalgia and would make a good gift for a former Akronite. The recipe given for any particular dish may not be the one you remember -- every family had their own version -- but it will get you within the ballpark. I liked this book.

Wonderful collection of history & recipes
This book is well researched and beautifully written. As an Akron native, I’m delighted to have these precious snapshots of Akron in my book collection.I’ve thoroughly enjoyed trying some of the recipes, however the paprikash is a disappointment. I had expectations way too high; I followed the recipe exactly, but it turned out to be pretty average/mediocre. It is unauthentic and my family was the opposite of impressed. There are paprikash recipes out there that are so much better and actually worth my time.Regardless, the book is worth buying 100%,

A Great Book on Immigration and the Food the Immigrants Brought with Them
In all honesty, this well researched study of ethnic cuisines and their impact on an industrial city would mean more if you were from Akron, OH. But, anyone who loves food should enjoy the tales of the contributions immigrants made to a community. Apart from the histories of immigrant groups and their native foods, the book includes pen portraits of people who have submitted their own family recipes to the cause. The recipes are one of the highlights if the book. It also includes as complete a history of the sauerkraut ball as you are ever going to read. If you've never heard of sauerkraut balls, you need this book.
