Love that you can put bulk charcoal and use the gas burners to get it started. I used large lump coals to reduce the ashes. Recommend putting an aluminum catch pan or foil underneath to catch the ashes as i'll be doing this from now on. After the first use the coating seemed to have come off a bit but doesn't really matter. I did have to refill the charcoal a few times during my long cookout.

Yes, this does allow you to use charcoal for part of a gas grill. I expect the customer will find the fit not ideal and the trouble to convert back and forth not worth the trouble. Good idea but probably not the ease you imagine.

I always wanted a gas grill and my husband couldn't give up the coals, now we unbelievably have solution for both needs, turns up quickly and has great smoke flavour from the coals. Absolutely amazing.

If you own a gas grill, and don't have the space for a charcoal grill, but want the charcoal taste. This might be a suitable solution. I can confirm that this will fit in a Charbroil 5 burner gas grill. It sits right above the burners. I was able to adjust it enough to only have only one row of holes sit over the burner so I placed a piece of aluminum foil over that row to prevent ash from getting into the burner hole. It worked for the most part, but wasn't perfect. Lighting up the coal was easy. Set the burners on high and in about 15 minutes the coals will be ready.Why the one star? It sits too close to the grill grates. My grates are used so there's old food particle that aren't fully removed. The flare up was constant. More importantly. This tray basically only worked for searing. If I left chicken, beef or anything really sit for more than 30 seconds it'll become burnt. I'll have to use the other side of my gas grill for actual cooking. After several uses I decided to get a standalone charcoal grill, which was about the same cost I paid for this tray, but I have a much larger cooking surface, plus I get the whole cooking surface from my gas grill back. Cleaning the ash after every use was also a pain. Anyway. The thought of owning and using this was cool and convenient, but it's not.

Just be careful when taking it out of the box, or holding it sideways as the wood ship lid will easily fall out, and it’s heavy.

I have a Napoleon gas and Webber kettle charcoal grill. I bought this for the gas grill, as I thought it would get me to do more charcoal grilling, based on the convenience of quickly lighting up the charcoal.Unfortunately, the inconvenience of cleaning up after is much greater. And you definitively need to clean up to prevent you gas grill from damaging. The kettle grill cleaning, is much easier and not needed after grilling.There are various products for light up charcoal faster, this is not the best option for connivence.
