Excellent when you want the information you need without being swamped with information you don't.
Better than vivosmart 4 and suits me down to the ground. Excellent product.

Vivosmart 5 - A nice competent health and sports tracker band.
After my Fitbit health tracker band finally gave up the ghost, I decided to look for the closest equivalent I could find. The Garmin Vivosmart 5 seemed the best fit for me regarding size and function. In fact, this device exceeded my requirements for trackers for Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen, Step count, Sleep monitoring, etc. I wanted a band size similar to my old FitBit and a sub £150 price tag. So far so good.I am pleasantly surprised at the Vivosmart 5. Functionality outstrips my old FitBit, and the companion Garmin App actually gives me most (if not all) what I would have to pay extra for by having to subscribe to FitBit’s premium subscription.Battery life can be quite short (approximately 2 days) if the Blood Oxygen readings are set to constant (Pulse), but I get approximately 4 days use (permanently on my wrist) without charging if this function is turned off.I can of course switch this on again if I require a check, so I know it’s available. My only minor niggle so far is that if I want to use non-metric weights and distances, the weather temperature (synced from the app on my phone) displays in fahrenheit rather than celsius. Even though it's celciius on my phone. It seems this cannot be changed unless I select metric weights and distances. Not a major issue for me, as the weather apps on my phone suffice for this data. So, in conclusion, after a few days of ownership, so far I’m impressed. If I could score 4.5 stars I would.

Great watch
Really great watch with limited functions, only needed time and steps so all other functions were a bonus so perfect for me. Charges quickly.

Not Working
The instructions for Setup using a PC did not work. I contacted Garmin and was told I needed to use a Smartphone. I contacted Garmin again and was told I should be able to setup with my PC and the device was faulty and I returned it to Garmin and they replaced itThe Replacement is the same as the original, Unable to access the menu and does not enter "Mass storage Mode" It may be Garmin Express Windows 10 PC Software on my PC that is the problem but Garmin Customer Support Don't seem to know what the problem is.

Upgrade for a VivoSmart 4
My previous device was suffering from battery age (and not consumer replaceable) so I'd been considering an upgrade. I like the Garmin app but didn't want a large watch type screen so this fits the bill. Happy so far.

Ok, but didn't stay working long enough
Key point first - after about a year and a bit the HR and step counter stopped working reliably (randomly dropping out). For me that's way too short a lifespan for a £100 device. Unfortunately this sort of lifespan (sub 2 years) is becoming a habit for me with Garmin devices - my prior watch was the same model, older version, and lasted about 2 years before the battery essentially died on me.Otherwise; the app is ok, although Garmin do seem to get an unusually high amount of outages. Build quality is ok - but the band itself has started loosening so the watch unit itself is at risk of popping out.Not sure on HR accuracy (when it was working all the time), step count was ok but prone to counting other hand movements (e.g. brushing teeth, raking the lawn) as steps.Plus point is that it's pretty lightweight - I can fit it easily under boxing gloves - and the app is entirely free. If it'd lasted longer than just over a year I'd happily give it 5* but I'm pretty hacked off at having to replace it so quickly.

Not great
Brand new, the batter on my device lasts no longer than 1.5 days, which is beyond disappointing considering the claimed life is 7 days. I have put it onto its most basic settings to try save the battery but still cannot make it to 2 days.I do not know if this is representative of all Vivosmart 5s but nonetheless it is disappointing from my perspective. The display is minimalist which I like, however, the screen itself is poor resolution and the touch screen is not great.Strap cannot be replaced which is not ideal since it is a fitness band and will likely receive rugged use.Besides that it does do exactly what it says it will do with regards to the health functions. It definitely over counts the number of steps but everything else seems relatively accurate. Will be trying it for a bit longer, but currently considering and returning it.
