Williams 50661 1/4-Inch Drive Socket and Drive Tool Set, 27-Piece
This review is on the Williams 50661 1/4-Inch Drive Socket and Drive Tool Set, 27-Piece. It has both metric and inch (SAE) sockets. Made in Taiwan. Compare this to the current Craftsman 1/4-inch drive socket sets, which come separately as either metric or inch, and are made in China. This Williams set is certainly equal if not superior in manufacturing quality to the Craftsman (I think, superior), and it contains more tools and sockets. The Craftsman metric set goes from 5mm to 13mm, lacking the Williams 4mm, 5.5mm, and 14mm. The Craftsman inch (SAE) set goes from 3/16 to 1/2, lacking the Williams 9/16. The Craftsman 1/4-inch drive sets have the sockets, a ratchet, and a 1-1/2 inch extension bar. This Williams set has the sockets, a ratchet (30001), a 1-1/2 inch extension bar and 6 inch extension bar, plus a 1/4-inch drive U-Joint, and 1/4-inch drive spinner handle. If you bought the two Craftsman sets, you’d have two ratchets - otherwise, there is no advantage to choosing Craftsman over Williams. Comparing the ratchets, I prefer the Williams: it looks better, and feels better in the hand and in use. Both are 36 tooth designs. Comparing the sockets, the Williams are slightly longer than the Craftsman. All sockets are 6 point.I recommend this Williams set as an affordable, casual use, 1/4-inch drive metric and SAE socket set.

You pay for it but it's Quality.
Very good Ratchet set. Yes it's made in Taiwan but the quality of this product surpasses the Kobalts you will pick up in a Lowes for much more money(no slam against Lowes, great store). Pros: 1. The case, you open the case and the sockets are lying there loose. There is no trying to rip out the sockets hurting your fingers like Husky big sets(Huskys a good tool though). Why do manufacturers make sets you have to rip out with your hands? 2. The Handles ergonomically fit your hands and balance well. 3. The ratchet runs smooth with little or no sound. 4. The sockets fit with out stripping a bolt( I tried a metric on a fraction and it did the job no stripping). 5. I broke a bolt, not the ratchet or the socket. 6. The driver's smooth and fits you hands well. 7. 2 extensions. Why don't all sets come with 2 extensions? Cons:1. Price, your gonna spend 40 bucks for this anywhere. Amazon my best friend in the whole world. Come on Amazon, free express saver shipping on this product please. 2. The box it comes in. Your shipping a Socket set not a set of Ski's and I got the message. (They sent me some cookies in a tin can and the can got dented but this happened 2 times to me, so like a hands on person I am, Nailed them).. 3. It's made in Taiwan not the USA. What steel are they using? I believe its U.S Top grade(U.S steels good stuff) but I don't know. Huskys are made in China. They are a good tool but China wanted Taiwan for years. Why? Quality believe that. 4. That's it. So they say Wusthof and J.A Henkles are the knives pro chefs use. If your a mechanic, for the price of these Williams don't ask buy them. Are you a person who who does small jobs every once in a while? Go to Walmart and get some Stanleys(highly underrated made by Black and Decker) or Husky(Made in China). Craftsman I had all my life but they just don't feel right to me anymore. Craftmans do the job but lately the price compared to a Williams is no contest.

Great for the money
I'm a mechanic and bought this set to keep in my box for smaller jobs like changing a battery in the parking lot when I don't want to walk back and forth to get different sockets, etc. I can just grab this set and it usually has everything I need for small tasks and seems well made. A few weeks ago the alternator in my truck went out on the way to work. Napa brought me a new one and I took this set with me to remove things like hose clamps and plastic covers but ended up doing the entire alternator change with just this set. Only other tool I used was a breaker bar for the belt tensioner. This little 1/4 inch ratchet broke all of the 20 year old 10mm mounting bolts loose on the alternator which was definitely a job for a bigger and stouter ratchet with a longer handle but I was able to do the entire job with this set and I would definitely recommend it to keep in the vehicle or around the house to get you out of a bind. I believe it's a significant step up from the quality of sets they sell at box stores like craftsman, kobalt, etc. The ratchet seems well made and the sockets have a really nice chrome coating on the inside that looks just like my SK set. Nothing to complain about for price.

I love it
Great little kit for the small stuff. Didn't need deep well sockets but I needed SAE and Metric sockets. Love the super short extension - already came in handy for a tight repair. Great ratchet and screwdriver handle.

not perfect, but very good
I work in maintenance of electromechanical equipment, so it isn't as if this has been sitting in a drawer just incase I need a ratchet set. The ratchet was a little stiff and crunchy at first but it has smoothed out with use. My chrome is shiny and not falling off in chucks. It's got a wide range of sizes, in particular the 9/16th size which is common on the machines I work on but hard to come by in a 1/4 inch drive set. The case feels kind of cheap, the clasp is bendy/plastic rather than being hinged, but it has held up surprisingly well and keeps all the sockets snug without rattling around all the time. The handle is kind of silly; as if I am going to walk around answering service calls with just a ratchet set in my hand rather than having it in a bag with the other tools. I cut it off because it was superfluous and taking up space in my tool bag. The driver handle is really good. I was trying to find a Williams #2 Philips driver with the same handle, but could not. This is a very functional set that has stood of well to daily use. The case is the only downfall, which isn't bad, just not as good as it could be

Decent value for your money
For a company that makes tools for snap on. It was not snap on grade

1/4 Williams Rachet Review
I really like the Williams line of tools. However, this set is a cheaper version that is made in Taiwan. I knew by the price it would be a cheaper line, but the thing that bothers me the most is every single piece is stamped, "made in Taiwan." I guess they have to differentiate it from the top of the line Williams/Snap-On tools. For the money it is a pretty good set. It seems very similar to a Canadian Tire Mastercraft set I have. It will be easy to carry into a U-pick junkyard etc.
