Gourmet Basics by Mikasa Verona Cream Set of 4 Pasta Bowls, 8 Inch

Love these bowls! They're gorgeous, heavy, and of a wonderful quality. They look exactly like the picture as well. No complaints!

I got these because I am in the market for some new bowls/plates and thought these would match the plates I currently have. These bowls are nicely weighted, a bit heavier than you would expect, but not heavy heavy, and the bump pattern on the outside, makes them less slippery feeling in the hands. The glaze is beautiful - almost a dark metallic finish towards top and a brown/tan glaze in the center.As for size, they are 8" wide and about 2" tall, so it holds a decent amount of food...they are really in between a bowl and a plate. For soups, it might be to swallow for some, but for me, it is pretty good size (though french onion definitely needs to go into a taller bowl). I think for my household, these will become the go to dish for dinner...since it will hold nearly everything.As for cleanup - we don't use our dishwasher (though these are dishwasher safe), so we hand-washed them, and the cleanup was quick and easy. The glaze doesn't hold onto much, so with very little power, these bowls were clean in no time.Overall - I love them and will use them a lot in the future. Do I recommend them...yes - especially if you like brown/tan dishes, and don't mind a little weight in your bowls. I would love to see these in blue!

This is called a "pasta bowl" so we tried it out first with pasta, and discovered that these sizable low-walled bowls fit a whole meal. Chicken, pasta, and spinach for one all fit together in the bowl, which is a time-saver and also means fewer dirty dishes. These are not lightweight but heavy and sturdy, though they have a good balance too and won't tip over like some ramen bowls for example that have a base instead of sitting flat. The light color on the inside is a nice touch, though stacked in a cupboard these look like dark color dishes. The texture on the outside is good for the bowl not slipping out of your hands, though I am sure they are just for decoration and not meant for that reason. They have a nice weight and feel to them. They have a large footprint in the cabinet but also they stack nicely, so that the stack is low. Perfect if you have low shelves and need to fit in some bowls. This would be a good housewarming gift and it is a nice addition to a household because of its versatility.

the photographs do not adequately show the elegant design and finish of these bowls. I tried taking a few photos to try, but the bowls have an elegance in reality that does not reproduce in photos. These are very nice bowls that will be an artful addition to your table setting. They have a range of brown to black colors that will offset most pasta sauces - red tomato, green pesto, white and golden cream, brown gravy - all will fit nicely with this bowl finish. I suppose you could come up with a color of sauce or pasta that does not do well, but you would really have to try hard. The bowl size and shape are well suited to pasta, being a bit broad with a depth that allows a large serving. Because of the design, a small serving will look artful as well, so all range of eaters are easily accommodated.

My first thought looking at these bowls was that they resemble Japanese armor. I’m certain that’s what Mikasa had in mind when they designed the “bumps” on the outside of the bowls. (In Japanese armor, the tatehagi do is a vertically riveted lame on the cuirass. TMI, I know.) I love everything Japanese, especially the food, so these bowls instantly appealed to me.Now don’t get me wrong. These Verona bowls are very, very pretty. But I am a little disappointed that they’re designed to fit Italian pasta. They’re far too shallow for Japanese noodles, and they’re far too wide for donburi — Japanese rice dishes. So the whole Japanese aesthetic is lost on these bowls. But my disappointment won’t be yours, if what you’re buying are black pasta bowls with a cool design on the outside and the inside. These are perfect pasta bowls.

I love these bowls. It is very elegant and shinny. The color is beautiful, and very accurate comparing to the web pictures. It seems sturdy. It looks and feel high quality. They are not cereal bowl, they look more like Asia soup bowls just wider opening. Outside wall of the bowl has some round bumps that make easy to handle and hold. It is dishwasher safe. It came in a thick normal brown paper box that is not impressive. It would be great for a young couple family because they are just 4 bowls. This is the only thing I do not like because we are 5 in my family.

The media could not be loaded. I really like the overall design, look and feel of these ceramic style pasta bowls. The colors are a nice light cream and dark brown color with great details on the inside of the bowl in the center. It almost looks like a flower (dandelion or sunflower).The bowls come in a set of 4, they feel very study and have a good weight to them. They are easy to clean, I have washed them once by hand and once in dishwasher so far to test that out.These are roughly 8 inch bowls, great fit for pasta, snacks, cereal or any side dishes you may have. I definitely recommend these bowls.

The media could not be loaded. The bowls looked much better in the photos than in person. The design fell flat to me when I got em in my hands. All the bowls but one were also broken right out of the box. Investing in better packaging material for fragile material like this well help during transit. Returning and looking elsewhere.
