Puppy Start Right: Foundation Training for the Companion Dog (Karen Pryor Clicker Book)

This book was recommended by a trainer at a positive-only dog training organization, and it is fantastic. Even if your dog is older, you will find valuable information in this book. Excellent and clear - the instructions with photos help too, and bullet-point summaries on each topic.

It’s a lot of info to retain but a good book for reference

Raising a puppy is more than teaching commands. You’re teaching them how the world works. This book and Social, Civil, Savvy are the best books ever.

The media could not be loaded.  If you’re on the fence about getting this book, let me tell you that it’s an amazing addition to any dog and/or puppy owner of every level! I myself was unsure about buying it since I already read and collect a lot of knowledgable science-based, & well-written books and I didn’t want to spend this much on a book that may have just repeated information I already knew... I am SO glad I listened to the recommendations of my fellow dog people and bought it! The quality, knowledge, and organization quickly made it a favorite of mine at the same level of Control Unleashed:Puppy Program and Denise Fenzi’s books. Also the size of the book surprised me in a good way. :) It’s a little bigger than the average book with great black & white photos, how-to sections, informative chapters, key points to the side of each page, and listed references at the end of many of the informative chapters.

Love this book. Great, easy to understand instruction. The book anticipates your questions as you read through it. Great pictures which do a good job of illustrating the text of the instruction. I read the book in one afternoon and will read it again. Very good reference that I will use for many years. I highly recommend to any one serious about training your dog using positive techniques.

i bought this based off of a friends recommendation. Its ok if you want a hard copy book. the first few chapters explaining why dogs act the way the do was very helpful. The information on training wasn't as helpful. I have found several videos on youtube that had more practical info. So if you want an actual book - this is good. Otherwise save your money and go to youtube.

Loved that this book taught you the WHY if certain training techniques. The methodology behind the teaching allows you to come up with ways to teach your dog virtually anything. The only thing missing is more practical training examples at the end.

every puppy owner should have this book

This book covers all aspects of how to bring up a puppy and turn it into a well balanced adult dog. The science is covered as well as a variety of training angles and how puppies learn.Great read, is a must for anyone bringing a puppy into their life.

Prompt delivery. The section of the book that explains each command and how to yes the clicker is excellent. A shame it stops at the basics and spends so much time talking about how a dog sees/smells etc and history of things but then it is called 'start right'. Would recommend for someone who has little to no experience of dogs.

An excellent book not only for puppie, it also has valuable relevant information for older dogs too. Teaching puppies these foundation skills to adapt to a human world are necessary for ensuring a stable healthy confident dog. The book is packed with information. It is well designed with step by step instructions for both exercises and problem solving. .

Whether you are a newbie doggie owner, or a long time owner of numerous dogs I think we all will take away from Puppy Start Right very insightful information. You want a great dog,be a great owner...this book will educate you. It zeros on a specific behavioral issues you may want to address. It takes you from the earliest puppy stages to more advanced training. I highly recommend this book.

Our trainer recommended this book when we got a new puppy. Its packed with all kinds of great info and I would definitely recommend it to every dog owner regardless of the dog's age as some of the info given apply to dogs at any age.
