Does the camera switch between batteries when one gets drained?

That is not exactly how it works.  It actually utilizes both batteries simultaneously, thus enabling it run longer between battery changes.  Ideally, you should have a minimum of 4 batteries for each camera so as one set of two batteries drain, you can quickly and easily replace them with the next set.  And, while you are using the next set, put the 1st set on the chargers so they can be ready when the 2nd set drains.  Different batteries last longer than others so be wise and invest in the best you can afford and you will be glad that you did. Hope this helps you.

Two questions :). 1.) can you load it with only one camera battery, not two? 2.) someone said that it won't warn you when the battery is low, true?

1) yes it works with only one battery installed 2) it only notifies when both batteries (if two are being used )are almost dead,  which gives the equivalent reading of one half charged battery, you will get about 5 mins usage after it notifies you of low battery.

The one I received, which arrived quickly, matched my Rebel T3i perfectly and was a snap to set up. i have been using the 2 LP-E8 Li-ion batteries becasue they recharge very quickly. Have been using the grip for about 8 months I think without any difficulties or problems.
