BANDAITamashii Nations Gx-73 Mazinger Z TV Version Soul of Chogokin Action Figure

The GX - 73 Great Mazinger DC was released in June of 2017. The price on Amazon was $158.83 marked down to $142.40 when I purchased it. This does not appear to be an inflated price due to importing as Bandai’s own website sells it for 15,120JPY which works out to $141.52 US so anything in the $140 to $150 range seems reasonable. The product dimensions on Amazon list it as having a 2” height but Bandai’s has it at ~180mm which is just over 7”. I can confirm that his height from the bottom of his feet to the tip of his crown is almost exactly 7”.I’ve never watched the Mazinger cartoon but I have a strong tie to it thanks to Shogun Warriors. I have the 23.5” Mazinga with spaceship, 1 of 2 swords, 12 of 14 rockets and a rocket firing hand that still works. I also have the 5” die-cast Mazinga with 1 sword, both firing fists and wings. I have kept both since the late 70’s They are clearly played with. Although they are clearly based on the same robot design, the difference between my 5” die-cast Mazinga and Bandai’s Great Mazinger is night and day. I could never, in my youth, imagined such a magnificent figure.So how does Bandai justify the $140+ price tag? There is a lot of metal here but I was surprised to find that the inner shoulder, elbow and knee joints are all plastic with a metal covering. The shoulder articulation is very good with a tremendous range of motion. His shoulder armor swings up so as not to restrict his movement. The shoulders use a butterfly joint so you can actually have his arms straight and still have his hands touching. You can get a little over 90 degrees in the elbow as long as it’s turned in the correct position. There is a bicep swivel and decent wrist articulation.The head is all plastic and I really fear that his little side horns could break off. The neck articulation is fine and there is a decent ab crunch. The front of Mazinger’s crotch piece can be removed to take a peek at the inner workings of his hips and you can see a mixture of metal and plastic. With his crotch piece removed he can do a high kick but otherwise his hip articulation is nearly nil. There is a second crotch piece that allows much greater hip articulation at the cost of being able to see the balls of his hip joints. It would have been kind of cool if there had been a movable plate much like Bandai did with the back of the knees but the second crotch piece does allow more dramatic poses. He can spread his legs maybe 25 degrees but since he has no ankle rocker he can’t stand in that position. He has some very stiff thigh rotation and the only thing the ankle can realistically do is swivel. There is a greater than 90 degree bend but you need the crotch piece replacement to take advantage of the posing possibilities.Regarding extras, you get an unbelievable amount; 4 extra sets of hands, 2 swords, 3 sets of wings, a face replacement, forearm replacement, knee spikes, shin blades and on and on. I did have some issues with swapping some parts. I managed to get his black wings on easily but after a few tries I gave up on trying to put his red wings on because they just wouldn’t go in. I saw an online video of someone who could not manage to remove the red V-emblem on his chest and I had the same issue. I’m not really that into all the extras and I would have paid twenty dollars less for this figure if it came with a fraction of the extras.I was a little disappointed by the volume of plastic given the price tag. Besides the joints and head I believe all of the silver parts including the bicep, thigh and stomach are all plastic. That’s not to say that the Great Mazinger doesn’t have some heft to him. I have to say I would NOT recommend this figure for children. The recommended age is 6 and up but, Good Lord, I would never give this to a 6 year old. There are tons of sharp edges and breakable pieces. This is a dangerous toy for children and I would put the age at a minimum of 13 and possibly 15+. If a child plays with this toy it will break, end of story.With all the figures I have this one may bring me the most pleasure in posing. It literally brings me joy to test out his articulation. It’s a bit of money to spend but I can see where the cost goes and this is one figure I’ll really treasure.

Bandais new Soul of Chogokin GX-73 Great Mazinger. This is their new anime accurate Dynamic Classics line offering. So a very retro old school look, with modern day design and engineering. It's a nice robot. Very clean. Well proportioned to match what was seen in the anime's.Fit and Finish and sculpt are great. The only downside is you must swap the face plates from powered down dead eyes to powered up yellow eyes when you dock the pilder. He has two pilders. The teeny but full proportioned flying one and the tiny slightly squashed docked one. The scranger has threescranders with one having several modes. You have the folded up backpak for when Great Maz is on the groundyou have the red winged Scrander with wings that can be installed for either forward swept or rear swept for fast flight. (part swapping, unlike the earlier GX SOC's these do not hinge) And finally there is a large siver wingerd Great Booster.The stand hides an assortment of hands, rocket fist parts and the knee blades and spikes plus the extra face plates.I still think GX-02R remains the definitive best Great Mazinger. But this one is damned close and a fraction the current price. And has modern engineering and design (Sadly no Spring Firing Rocket fists anymore)

Just received mine yesterday. Looks amazing, as expected. A great addition to my ‘shogun shelf’. I’m only giving 3 stars because the red wings don’t fit! The black ones fit easily. They actually include 2 sets of the red wings (to display in either flight mode or standing) but since their center piece does not fit into the hole in his back, they’re both useless! We all know that these Chogokin figures are expensive and fragile! It’s not a good feeling when you’re struggling to make something attach or fit and it’s resisting and you’re internally praying something doesn’t snap off or break. I would’ve preferred to display with the red wings because they ‘pop’ more in contrast with his dark colors, like the Mazinger Z GX-70 I have displayed next to him. I believe at least one other review mentions this same problem. I would expect absolute perfection when spending this amount of $$$ on a toy. Kind of a bummer. But it does look great, and it is what it is.

Eh si, questo modello del great mazinger di bandai “soul of chogokin gx-73 dinamic classic” è fantastico.Il prodotto che mi è arrivato, venduto e spedito da amazon, ha l’etichetta di un importatore spagnolo ma è perfetto!Le proporzioni sono ottime e le misure generose (è decisamente più grande dei modelli della serie SRC dello stesso produttore), molto pesante e solido (c’è tanto metallo), dettagliatissimo nei particolari e con parecchi accessori: 2 brian condor (uno normale e uno in posizione per l’aggancio), 2 facce intercambiabili (una con gli occhi spenti e una con gli occhi accesi), 3 tipi di ali, le lame per le gambe, 2 spade, 2 boomerang (uno agganciato e l’altro senza attacco per la posa di lancio, 4 paia di mani, le armi a punta per le ginocchia, il missile centrale, il piedistallo e 2 tipi di supporti per tenerlo in posa).Parecchio difficoltoso è risultato lo sgancio del boomerang dal torace: ho dovuto tirare con forza in avanti (con la paura di romperlo...) e dopo diversi tentativi (non c’era verso di vederlo muovere) è venuto via ma ho potuto constatare che anche rimettendolo in sede poi si fatica lo stesso a toglierlo di nuovo, anche se un po’ meno. Pure l’aggancio delle ali sulla schiena non è agevole ma, con un po’ di energia ed attenzione, si riesce.Particolare importante, a favore della qualità di questa serie, l’assenza di fori a vista nei punti di aggancio e sgancio: togliendo il boomerang, ad esempio, ci si aspetta di ritrovarsi il foro per l’innesto... invece c’è una placca che, spinta da una molla dall’interno, chiude tutto, e lo stesso sulla schiena. A differenza di altri modelli non si notano viti di fissaggio delle parti.Unica nota negativa, se vogliamo proprio trovarne, la scarsa posabilità di questa serie di modelli: bene il movimento delle braccia e la piegatura del ginocchio, limitato invece il movimento del busto e molto limitati i movimenti delle anche (pur utilizzando il pezzo speciale per il rivestimento del bacino che dovrebbe consentire più rotazione), quasi inesistente il movimento delle caviglie. In sostanza le gambe hanno una scarsa posabilità e forse si poteva fare qualcosa di meglio da questo punto di vista.Ad ogni modo, nel complesso, penso si tratti di uno dei great mazinger più riusciti e come voto darei un 9/10 non raggiungendo il massimo solo per via dei movimenti limitati che ho descritto.Molto fedele al cartone animato originale e consigliato al 100% a qualsiasi appassionato di questi modelli che sia esperto o meno.

The Soul of Chogokin GX-73 Great Mazinger is an absolutely lovely figure. As it's apart of the Dynamic Classics line of the SoC figures, Great Mazinger here is very much based on his appearance and proportions from the original 1974 anime, and looks wonderful. The figure has plenty of diecast within, giving it a great, solid feel.Fantastic metallic blues and silver, glossy blacks and reds do the look of Great Mazinger justice, and the two different eye pieces and the two Brain Condors have some wonderfully small painted details.Great Mazinger comes with a whole host of accessories too, from a closed Scrander to display when not in use, the Scramble Dash fully sized, with two pairs of wing pieces to use depending if Great Mazinger is flying or not. A piece to display the Navel Missile loaded and ready to fire, pieces for the Knee Impulse Kick and Backspin Kick, two Mazinger Blades, a smaller heat sink to use for the Great Boomerang, alternate arms to display the Drill Pressure Punch in motion and the Great Booster, which can be displayed on stand on the figure's base or on Great Mazinger's back.Fins on the back of Great Mazinger's legs can also pop out or be hidden depending on whether he's flying or not too. There's also a number of different options for hands too, the usual closed, open and weapon holding hands. There's also the pointing hands meant for the Thunder Break attack and the first editions of Great Mazinger comes with hands for himself and Mazinger Z to display the pair of them shaking hands.The GX-73 is a fantastic version of Great Mazinger, and if you're a fan of the series you're really missing out if you don't buy one, I cannot recommend him enough!BRAIN CONDOR, FIRE ON!SCRAMBLE DASH!

超合金らしく重厚感がありますね。可動域もパーツ交換で問題なく緩みも無く良い感じです。何か有るとしたら、ブレーンコンドルが外れ易いかと、まぁ飾っている場合は関係無いけど、あとは、胸のグレートブーメランを外す時硬めなので、外す時は慎重にしないとブレードが折れそになるかな。全体的にはパーツが充実していて飾り方次第でいろいろ再現出来ると思います。写真ではマジンガー武器セットでロケットエフェクトを付けてみました。
