Koi-Koi rules are terrible in this book.
I agree with a previous reviewer that the Koi-Koi rules are terrible in this book. I got better rules from searching on the Internet. I read about 4 different websites with better instructions than this book. This book covers the Matching Game and 88 game in detail. But the Koi-Koi section is not helpful at all. The book was written in 1970 and the illustrations throughout the book are in black and white, which makes it difficult to tell the difference between scroll/ribbons and cherry and plum blossoms. Plus, several of the illustrations are mislabeled, which makes it confusing for anyone trying to learn that game. I received the 17th edition, so I would have thought they would have corrected the errors by now.

Great Resource with a Few Flaws
I bought this book a while back after getting a set of Nintendo Hanafuda cards online. I think it is indispensible. What I especially liked is the flap on the back cover of my edition with all of the cards listed with pictures, seasons, names, and point value. This is very handy to use during a game. I even photo-copy it and hand it out to players along with the page on bonus point combinations in Honeymoon Hanafuda. There are a few confusing errors in text/illustrations, which is the only reason this didn't get five stars. Since this is the 14th edition, I would have expected them to be ironed out by now. For example, on page 27,the board and hand cards are mislabeled. There are a few others, which can make it very confusing for a beginner like me! Eventually figured them all out and pencilled in the correct descriptions. I would recommend this book to anyone starting out.

Great guidebook
I played Hanafuda as a child, but never realized how many games could be played using these cards. This book seems to cover them all (as far as I know) and really explains the games. The book itself is well put together. Glossy paperback cover and approximately 8x11 inches in large format.

My Teen granddaughter loved this book
I gave this to my granddaughter for her teen birthday. After we played a game with the cards, I found it among her books lying on the floor while she watch a video game. I asked her if she intended to read it. "YES, Grandma. That's why I put it there." Good book, easy to read. Tells about more than the basic game.

Nice to finally see the rules of the game
We were taught this game as children during typhoon season. Nice to finally see the rules of the game.

Great for Beginners
Extremely helpful book for learning the cards. Has 48 full-colour pictures, as well as additional black-and-white pictures for further explanations. Rules make a lot of sense - well-explained.

Four Stars
The book is helpful to learn the game of Hanafunda, especially to learn the scoring aspect of the game.
