Under the comparison chart this camera is listed as 1x optical zoom, while others in the same model are 3x optical zoom. why?

It depends on the lens you are using. If you are using a prime (fixed) lens, you won't have optical zoom (but you'll have bigger aperture), and if you buy a zoom lens you'll have as much optical zoom as the lens let you. It all comes down to the lens you buy. Anyways this is an excellent camera, I personally onlly have the fixed 35mm lens and I love the combo.
