London: So Go!...
This brand-new Lonely Planet guide to London has fresh details for travelers to Britain, post-pandemic. The guide was written by locals who know their neighborhoods in London, and it shows in the details. The narrative has a fascinating mixture of local maps, photographs, comments and opinions on what to see, and what to expect. There are lots of practical tips for the first-time visitor on how to get around London. The guide includes a tear-out folding map of London. There is also a compact tear-out information card for getting from London's various airports into the city itself. Not least, the guide is compact and portable. Very well recommended to the enterprising traveler.

Solid overall guide
Solid guidebook. It could benefit from the addition of more "off the beaten path" suggestions, but otherwise very solid in covering the basics.

Not very helpful, ended up using other guidebooks for our trip
I have used and purchased several of The Lonely Planet guidebooks over the years and this has been the least helpful. It isn’t laid out well and isn’t particularly helpful. The Index might be the worst ever. We ended up using the Rick Steve’s London guidebook for most of our trip, which had lots of helpful info and tips.

Review by a Mama and Avid Traveler
I LOVE to travel! I’ve been to 10 countries and counting with my husband and two kids. Whenever I travel I look through a Lonely Planet travel book before going. This one, London, is a FANTASTIC book!! The thing I love the most is having this book downloaded to my phone, it has links to maps that I have actually used when mildly lost. The book is divided into the following sections: Plan Your Trip, Explore London (with subcategories of West End, City of London, South Bank, Kensington/Hyde Park, Clerkenwell/Shoreditch/Spitalfields, East London/Docklands, Hampstead/North London, Notting Hill/West London, Greenwich, Briston/Peckham/South London, Richmond/Kew/Hampton Court), Understanding London and Survival Guide.PERSONAL LONDON NOTES: I stayed in the family friendly neighborhood of Chelsea which was expensive however walkable, safe and near public transportation. Also I didn’t see this in the book so heads up, if you want to use the public toilet some of them require a £ or two to use it. We had zero cash and a kiddo who couldn’t hold it for long so…learn from our mistake and keep a few in your pocket just in case. Happy and safe travels! 😊

Inconsistent updates and lazy edits
I get Lonely Planets for free as part of Kindle Unlimited, which is great because I’d be mad if I paid for this book. The 12th edition, updated Nov 2022, promises to have post-COVID listings updated….but the write ups still say various attractions “are closed until summer 2021.” There are multiple references to Charles as the Prince of Wales and William as the Duke of Cambridge, Trooping the Color as the Queen’s birthday, and Boris Johnson as Prime Minister. The history timeline ends in January 2020.Several restaurants have closed post COVID too, so double check your itineraries.

A great resource
On a recent 2 week trip to the UK, we used and Airbnb in London as our home base. This was a great resource to look at to plan walks and explorations all around London.

Tour guide - too much useless info
This book is not user friendly at all. There is so much information that is probably unnecessary or not even appropriate for many tourists, given the writer is clearly a lover of opera, fine dining, modern art, and the more expensive hotels.Every page is saturated with info in tiny writing so be sure to have your glasses. It was all too much for my neuro-divergent brain! I feel like the info wasn't organised well. It would have made more sense to give info suburb by suburb. Or zone by zone. I'll pull out the map at the back but otherwise there's not much useful info. What is written just confused me to be honest.
