Weighs about 8 lbs. but it bumps up an additional 3 lbs once I add my laptop, wireless backlit keyboard and files. I've read other reviews stating this bag is too heavy however having had bilateral surgery on my elbows (trust me, I'm very careful of weighbearing products) this bag is not heavy to carry/lift or roll. The single handle is well structured so you needn't worry about it being flimsy.

Q: Does the handle lock in a mid-extended position or must it be fully extended to lock? I'm short, so..

There are three handle positions. I just checked :)

Q: Will this fit in the overhead lugage carrier on the airplanes?

I travel every week and found that it fits easily on the 700 series but does not fit in the overhead with the wheels attached on smaller commuter planes. I always have to gate check.

Q: For the detachable-wheeled component, there are two retractable metal handle shown - a single bar and double U-shaped bar. Which one is correct?

There is a single retractable metal bar on the detachable wheeled section. There are two leather handles on the case portion.
