Keeps You Guessing
A lot of plot twists keeps you guessing until the end. Jason Statham, Ryan Phillippe and Wesley Snipes were each superb. The motorcycle chase was top notch and pure exhilaration. Highly recommend.

Maybe not the right Ryan?
In the Ryan Triad (Gosling, Reynolds, Phillipe), this might not have been the Ryan you wanted to portray a the kind of cop who can ride a Harley full tilt through alleys, dodge careering trucks, survive devastating explosions and shoot and be shot at by bad guys. He is just too pretty!Ryan Phillipe could be a runner up in the Derek Zoolander competition for guys who are just really really ridiculously good looking. If youโve got one of those illustrated DK dictionaries, look up โbabyfaceโ. I bet the entry is accompanied by a picture of Mr. Reynolds.Seriously, heโs prettier than castmates Jessica Steen or Justine Waddell. Paired with the always-stubbly Jason Statham, he comes off not so much as a lightweight but more like weightless. Ryan Gosling couldโve added some gravitas to the goings on. I mean, did you see โDriveโ? The good one, I mean? 2011? Ryan Gosling could at least keep up with Statham in a taciturn-off.But, enough picking on Phillipe. He wears one expression through this compact thriller, a vague pout of disapproval. Statham maintains his sullen mien, too. But thatโs his whole thing. Whatever movie heโs in, heโs Jason Damn Statham, dammit! And I do love me some Statham.Which is why โChaosโ is kind of a disappointment. Weโve got Statham, the toughest pint-sized martial arts star working, and Wesley Snipes, who used to be no slouch in that department himself. Remember those โBladeโ movies? Snipes kicked vampire butt in those! Yet with all that, Statham and Snipes exchange not so much as a polite handshake, let alone a kick to the head. Phillipe gets in some punches and bludgeoning with Wesley Snipes, but itโs just not the same. I want to see Mr. Statham leap six feet in the air and chin-kick two mobster simultaneously while throwing a wrench at a third.Thatโs just me. โChaosโ is supposed to be a cerebral thriller with a plot so baroque as to be ludicrous, accompanied by a lot of bafflegab about โchaos theoryโ. And stories about the Buddha. Even the superficial nodding acquaintance this reviewer has with popular science books about maths is enough to convince me that the screenwriters just read a couple reviews of this important book (conveniently discovered on Stathamโs bookshelf) and then wrote some vague handwaving about complications and patterns and stuff.I donโt know enough about the Buddha to say if Phillipe was on to something there, or making it all up. But the plot is so over-complicated that it could never work in a million chaotic years. Computer viruses must have sounded sexier in 2005, too. The basic plot idea is cadged from the wonderful โOffice Spaceโ, though, and itโs kind of fun.Still, thereโre things to like. A nice pickup/motorcycle chase through streets and alleys. A bank blows up real good. Shots are fired and then fired some more. Detonators glow red and count down. A house blows up real good. Statham glowers. Snipes seems to really be enjoying his silly lines, emoting with more enthusiasm than the rest of the cast put together. A bank heist. Things are not what they seem (are they ever?). A coroner attempts to vamp Detective Phillipe, and fails. Ryan still looks beautiful despite a lot of minor cuts and scrapes makeup, what with falling off a Harley, being blown up, being shot and wrestling with Wesley Snipes. And a not-quite M. Night Shyamalan but good enough twist at what seems like the end. Letโs twist again, like we did in Seattle! In all, a so-so but not terrible low-stakes thriller with enough action to keep the brain from asking too many questions, an appreciated turn by Wesley Snipes, who should get more work, and some decent explosions. Give me a good explosion and Iโll put up with a lot. Just donโt ask me to believe itโs all โChaosโ. More like predictable.

decent action, huge plot holes and really bad police procedure
I can't recall watching another movie where there were so many stupid errors happening one after another. Saline comes in bags, drugs come in tiny bottles. No hospital would have a fridge full of narcotics in the patient's room unlocked. If you want to kill someone in a hospital bed, you inject the drug into the mainline, not the IV bag. The explosion at the bank would have killed everyone inside, even the security box explosion would have pressure waved everyone into unconsciousness. Looked like a pound of plastique on those boxes. Why cannot hollywood even try to get things reasonably correct? Seattle diner with a lunch special under $5, LOL. So many procedure errors, did they even have a real police advisor? After a while I got to thinking this was a comedy. Lots of interesting twists though.

Good movie with a happy ending.
Jason is the ultimate in all of his movies, this one was no exception.

Good movie but not a good mystery
I liked this movie but I am too used to being able to guess due to clues given and I don't believe it possible for this one.

At least it's in Seattle
It's always refreshing to find that that somebody read the Cliff Notes version of Gleich's book and then was involved in making a movie that referenced it. Other than that it's Bang, bang and some explosions, cops not at their finest, with a twist on top.

I've seen this movie loads of times is in my dvd collection am writing a review because of the negative ones about this movie which I can't believe first of all story is predictable but most trillers are I think this is a very intelligent triller goes along at a nice slow pace keeps you watching even though you probably have guessed what happens the star of this movie has to be ryan philippe and only played a supporting role jason statham who says he can't act I think jason is one of the most intelligent actors out there and shows in this movie Wesley snipes well I was kinda suprised he was in this movie but he did a good job of you haven't watched it because of negative reviews ignore them and watch this movie!

OK film, and the director's commentary is excellent!
I can't strongly disagree with all the earlier comments - it's certainly not the best ever such film, but - I'd have to say - not at all bad (apart from The Stath's 'Mercan accent - that is definately NOT good!)The director's commentary, however, was excellent. Tony Giglio speak very intelligently and with insight about his film, and this is well worth listening to.At this price, I would say go for the DVD - it will certainly fill a couple of evenings with something reasonably cerebral.

Good twist.
I liked this film. The plot was similar to "Inside Man". But different enough to make it worth seeing. It has enough action and good "talky" bits. The film had me fooled as I did not expect the ending. The characters were believable. Although the female interest seemed a bit predictable. All in all a good film.
