Perfect for learning and practicing your nautical knots away from the boat
We recently bought our first boat and were scrambling to learn how to tie the necessary knots. Basically, I learned one very well and made it work for all occasions, whether suitably or not. This was exactly what we needed to learn the different knots in the comfort of our house and while under zero pressure. The chart is pretty easy to follow and shows you how to tie more types of knots than you will probably ever need. You also get 15' of two different kinds of rope. You will need to attach the included cleat to a board you provide, using screws you provide. I had some scrap 2x8 pieces laying around and screwed the cleat to about an 18" piece of 2x8, which has worked fine. If you don't have anything, both Lowes and Home Depot (and probably most local lumber stores too) have a section in the lumber department where they sell scrap pieces of wood at a bargain price. Just pick something up and you are ready to practice knot tying!

This is a keeper
I was thinking of getting this as a gift to one of the grand kids but I think I will keep it myself. OK, I am not a miser, I will probably get him one too. But I am keeping this one. Being that is waterproof I will probably keep it on the pontoon boat or in the camper..To my shame I only know one knot, but I know it well, it's the truckers hitch and when I tie it people are impressed thinking I am a knot expert. Well embarrassingly all my other knots looks like I was try to tie my tennis shoes. This guide has great easy to understand diagrams that are large enough to see with ease. It will have you tying knots is seconds. Bonus info: not only will you learn how to tie knots but the card also offers tips on which ropes work better with certain knots and which knots work better for certain tasks.

Helpful tool!
I grew up in a family of commercial fishermen. I’ve lived on the water and been around boats all my life. I’m embarrassed to admit, I can’t tie a knot! My dad always joked “if you can’t tie a knot, tie it a lot”, and that’s basically what I did. (Of course, as a captain, he knew every knot there was). We’ve had a boat of our own for several years now. I can tie it to the cleat, but probably not as efficiently as I could, and I can’t tie much else. I saw this and had to try it.This kit includes a nautical knot reference chart, a 6-inch horn cleat, 7-foot jute rope and 25 feet of poly rope. I was a bit disappointed with the cheap, plastic cleat. I guess I was expecting metal - or something more substantial. The poly rope is also thinner than I expected. As ocean boaters, everything is more rugged (cleats, ropes, etc), but I understand this is just a learning guide. I also wish they included some hardware. This literally can’t be used unless the cleat is secured to something. I ended up cutting a hole in the cardboard box and wedging it in. It’s not very secure, but enough to start practicing. I took a picture of my first knot, the cleat hitch. I’ve tried a few others, but it’ll definitely take some practice. I like that the guide not only gives you step-by-step instructions with illustrations, but also explains the common uses for each one. I was going to purchase hardware for this, but I’ll probably end up getting a metal cleat and securing it to a board or something. It’ll be my winter project. I’m hoping to master a few of these before our next boating season. (I’ve always wanted to be able to lasso a cleat, so maybe this will be my opportunity.) Overall, this is a great learning guide and I’m happy with it.

Useless for all sailors
As someone who has his ASA 101-104 I was looking for something to help me polish my knot tying skills, but this ain’t it. The ropes are absolutely useless. One is too stiff to be used for knot tying and the other is practically falling apart. The instructions card is overly simplistic and not particularly helpful. It also misses some essential knots listed in the ASA manuals. Do not buy this product get regular rope and practice on that instead using YouTube videos.

Absolutely love this
What a neat set! I have this displayed by our pool on our shed along with the cleat. I didn’t intend to use it like decor like this but it looks soo cool, why not?! Got just what I expected, it’s just more handy than I thought it would be.
