A Taste of Poison: A Snow White Retelling (Entangled with Fae)

Ticks a bunch of my boxes for a 5☆ read!
Another 5 star read, because I absolutely love this world of Faerwyvae & these unique characters she's recreated from old fairytales! This was one more fabulous read in the Entangled with Fae series! A Snow White retelling with a fae twist, set in a fantasy Regency world of humans and fae living on the same island. Fae in this series are in a human form as Seelie, and their Unseelie form is basically their wild side, be it bear, wolf, raven, tree, lake, etc.Enemies to lovers, one bed, cuffed together, yep, I'm a sucker for all of these tropes! This is spicier than the others, but no more than say🌶🌶. There's saving from addictions, and dealing with grief. I adore how Tessonja deals with real world problems in such a heartfelt way. Each of these in the series has had something to overcome, and done it well. This retelling has the Huntsman, (I imagined Chris Hemsworth as a ginger), a bear shifter, ordered to bring the runaway princess Astrid Snow's heart back to the palace, after her father is found dead at her feet, poisoned by the "medicine" she takes to calm herself. The Spring Court Queen Tris wants Astrid dead after killing her beloved husband, and makes the Huntsman a deal he can't refuse. The problem is Astrid is half Fae and her magic is being a mirror, she reflects what people love or hate most about themselves. Thus, no one really knows what she truly looks like. Good thing the handsome devil has a super heightened sense of smell. What he doesn't expect is to find her annoyingly irresistible, and annoyingly devoted to dumpster kittens. The fact that Astrid loves furry animals only gets better when he shifts and turns into a large bear. One of my favorite parts includes these snippets after an altercation where he should be terrifying."Astrid: "You're so..." Huntsman: "Terrifying?""Frightening?"Astrid: "Fluffy."Huntsman: "What?"Astrid: "Can I please touch your fur?"Such a fun read! I couldn't put it down and was up half the night finishing it.

Fun Witty Read [drug addiction warning]
This was another great read in this series. I like that they are all stand-alone fairytale retellings. This one, of course, is loosely based on the classic Snow White story. There were lots of twists, leaving me guessing close to the end! I liked the mystery. As usual, the world building is top notch and we get lots of beautiful clothing descriptions. Now, on to talk about my warning. This book dels with addiction and it’s negative effect on the body and relationships. It can feel a little heavy or triggering if you or someone close to you has dealt with that. I applaud the author for for handling such a real subject in a way that made sense. This added a very real and interesting dynamic to the book! There were a few swear words and the typical amount of romance.I love we’re this series is going and can’t wait for more!!

Do we love enemies to lovers - yes we do!
She does it again folks. If you look at my reviews for this series you’ll see “I think this is my favorite”.This one IS my favorite, I promise.Do you want to read a Cinderella retelling that includes the MC, Astrid being addicted to pain killers to numb the horrors of her attempted murder and the horror and shame of her magic? She’s a literal mirror to the worst and best parts of people. Ahhh Tessonja Odette, I see what you did there! She works at the 7 Deadly Sins Hotel. She’s a matchmaker. She is obsessed with fabrics and fur. She’s obsessed with animals.Good thing her love interest is a Fae bear shifter. He’s out to bring her to justice for the accused murder of her father.Do we love an enemies to lovers?? YES WE DO!

Brilliant retelling
There is a reason Tessonja Odette quickly became one of my favorite authors and an auto-buy author for me, and that reason is her retellings are brilliant. The way she writes her characters, the imagery she portrays, the personalities that come through the pages and the overall enjoyment of her stories will make you want to purchase all of her back list as soon as you read one of her books. With all that being said, this book was fantastic. You will enjoy the creative magic system, the characters and their relationships with each other, and the unique twists she puts into these retellings.

Just Became My Favorite in the Series
Welcome back to Faerwyvae! This time we find ourselves in the courts of Fire and Spring where Half fae fugitive, Astrid, and Alpha Council Huntsman, Torben, collide in all the best ways in a twisty Snow White retelling.Listen, I’m a Franco girl, forever a Franco girl (if you haven’t read Heart of the Raven Prince, go do it), but damn if Torben didn’t claw my heart right out. I remember precisely the moment I fell in love with him (it was definitely on the train, folks) and it’s partly the same reasons I fell in love with Franco - despite the facade the world sees, inside they’re big ol softies.Tessonja Odette once again serves us a platter full of relatably flawed characters. Characters working their way through trauma, clinging to different motives and trying to sort through the pieces of their broken lives. Each of our characters has lost something great and each is on their own journey to repair that loss.Like Heart of the Raven Prince, this novel is told from both Astrid and Torben’s point of view, which I personally prefer. Both are lovable characters, who are mostly rational and don’t suffer from overly dramatic miscommunication, with plenty of banter to go around. If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again - I enjoy this series so much because it isn’t off the charts dramatic. The characters are mostly upfront and there isn’t an absurd amount of holding back feelings or those hot/cold moments that always have my eyes lodged in the back of my skull.Overall this is a very sweet romance, definitely spicier than the other books in the series and full of those moments that make your heart feel like it’s going to burst. Get ready to suffer from cuteness overload with this one. Will definitely be rereading A Taste of Poison many times to come in anticipation for the next installment of Entangled With Fae.
