how do you use this. I am using it for a drawstring and I put it in the upper holes but it is too loose, in the bottom holes it won't move

Press the little top part down so the holes line up with the larger, bottom part. Insert the two drawstrings through each hole as long as you need to. Once you’re at your desired lunge or size ir whatever, release the small, top part and the drawstring should stay in place. Just a hint, tie knots at the end of each string so they don’t slip through the holes.

Can you use these for 1/4" double braided rope?

Hello, The cord hole diameter is 6mm, 1/4" rope can't be use it.

I'm trying to find something to use to keep my kiddo's pants tied tight while he's at school since he can't tie yet. Will these work for that purpose?

I use the locks for my walking and hiking shoes and for securing equipment bags so think one would work for your purpose. I have arthritis and these are large enough for me to operate as opposed to smaller ones but are also sturdier than many I looked at. They can be used in a variety of ways so worth a try. I have not used them for your express purpose.

Will this fit 1/4” cord without having to cut cord?

If the cord is a continuous loop, you might need to cut it. Put each end through one hole, then tighten it up.
