Can someone please explain what these are for? I don't understand what their purpose is.

Navage has proprietary salt pods that you must use. The machine doesn't work without them. If you notice inside the lid there are tiny buttons that get pushed and activates the machine to work. Typically, you can't use this device without the proprietary salt pods. This Silicone device mimics the proprietary salt pods and pushes the tiny buttons that activate this device to work and allows you to use your own mixture of saline.

If these are reusable, we do you need 10

They compress over time. If you have a time where the side button does not compress change this accessory out for a new one. Some are sturdier than others and last longer.

What kind of salt water do you use?

Do not use tap water. It is only purified for oral consumption and may still have microbes in it. Use distilled water and salt packets that are sold by other makers.
