After several attempts by me to install the product, I had two lengthy conversations with Nuance Technical Support. Their technician with my permission entered my computer and made several failed attempts to install the product for me. A few days later I made a further telephone request to Nuance Technical Support to launch the product and they seemed to have lost interest and suggested that I get someone locally with a knowledge of computers to start it for me. I have used computers at work and at home for about 30 years and during that time successfully installed issues 7-12 inc) successfully. I found the Nuance Technical Support staff, who spoke to me., to be incompetent and rude'. I made a third telephone request of Nuance Technical Support to start the product, but they seemed to have lost all interest. It appears that I need to give the product a rating before my submission is forwarded to you. My rating for it is zero.

I am in the process of writing a book and am a horrible typist. So it's taking forever. I stumbled upon this software while reading some writing blogs. I almost didn't buy it because of the negative reviews but I figured, for the price, why not? I purchased the disk version, used an external optical reader to load it on to my computer and it worked out of the box, as advertised. I was afraid I was going to have problems getting it loaded because it took literally 10 full minutes before it started installing. Perhaps people are just aborting the process when it appears to lock up? I went through a couple of screens with the install wizard before it appeared to freeze but I just left it alone and it eventually loaded with no problem. Of course, I have a newer computer so that may make a difference. I have had no problem getting it to work at all and the accuracy is exceptional. Certainly far better and quicker than anything I could produce. I have a relatively neutral accent and am a public speaker so I do tend to speak and enunciate my words clearly. I only use Dragon for Word to work on the book; I did not load it onto my browser. My productivity has gone up exponentially! I am not using the headset that came with the box; instead I am using a $60 Microsoft headset I bought off Amazon a while back. Using the headset makes working on my book as mobile as working on my laptop - even when dictating while at my son's baseball practice, the headset did not pick up anything other than my voice (not the music, coaches, kids or external sound). I did let the program peruse other documents, including my current book draft, so that it could learn my writing style and pick up some vocabulary words. Between that and reading the passage that Dragon provides to train the program, it took all of 10 minutes to "train." I went back and forth on whether to get the home or premium version. For my needs, this home version is perfect because I'm not going to use this for Excel, nor am I going to use an external voice recorder. Finally, I began practicing law over 20 years ago and always used dictation (because I couldn't type) so relearning dictation commands hasn't been difficult. Dragon comes with a cheat sheet to help you while you learn the commands. I'll keep it with me till I learn everything and then store it away. If you're thinking about purchasing this program, I'd say go for it. For the price of a family meal at a restaurant, its a relatively low risk investment.

I first tried DNS several years ago with the version 7 and found it to work fine, however, the user interface left much to be desired! Later, I had lots of trouble with the reinstalling after my computer crashed (not due to the speech recognition system) and I upgraded my computer and operating system. Recently, due to health reasons, I needed a replacement for my usual typing and tried the built-in speech recognition software in Windows 7. I found this extremely ineffective and so decided to try the Dragon speech recognition system once again.I purchased DNS version 13 home edition from from Amazon Canada. I simply couldn't get the installation going successfully on my Dell laptop and emailed Dragon Systems support. Within 24 hours I received an email from them asking for more details and within hours of that I received an email response for an alternative method of installation.it involved installing from the hard drive rather than the DVD. The instructions were very clear for the most part and worked like a charm! I found the new version to work a lot smoother than the earlier version 7. The software interface is vastly superior and user-friendly with excellent help files. Once set, without much training the dictation works nearly flawlessly; indeed I am using the software to dictate this! Very few errors, on some difficult words, capitalization at the beginning of sentences particularly when there is a pause in the dictation.overall I'm very happy with the performance of this extremely helpful software. One problem that I experienced, although it may have nothing to do with Dragon system software was noticed in the Virtual machine (XP) that I use on my XP Pro OS. It Would not shut down normally. I had to figure out with the help of Microsoft online help files, but once done, XP has been working nicely.I suspect that this XP mishap was independent of Dragon software. HIGHLY recommended!!
