Book of Blessings

Perfect gift for a newly ordained Deacon.

This hardcover book with ribbon markers is the standard cheap English edition of the "Book of Blessings" revised under Pope John Paul II in the late 1980s, approved for use in the dioceses of the United States. It is indispensable for any Roman Catholic priest or parish. Although it's possible this book's translation from the original Latin will again be revised in the distant future, as Pope Benedict XVI did with the Roman Missal in fall 2011, this revision will not happen anytime soon. We Latin Rite Catholics must simply substitute "and with your spirit" for the old response and continue using everything else here for the foreseeable future. There are also abridged editions of this book ("Shorter Book of Blessings," etc.) that include only the blessings used outside of mass, being more suitable for pastoral work on the road. This larger book is the one to get for your parish sacristy or priest's personal library. It includes all of the special blessings that one may use within mass, i.e. Mothers Day blessings and blessings of liturgical items. If you know a newly ordained priest or parish that needs an extra copy of this book for blessings, or perhaps a new one to replace a tattered old copy, then I highly recommend getting this book. It's the New York Catholic Book Publishing edition, not the Liturgical Press edition that is a bit more expensive, and it's quite durable as with all products from that company. It will enhance the liturgical life of your community to have a copy handy whenever needed.
