Missing Common Bird(s)
This book does not list a pileated woodpecker, so it makes me wonder, what other birds are missing? Being new to birding, I don't know how common the pileated woodpecker is, but if I've seen one in my backyard, I'm guessing that they're not too uncommon.

Super helpful pocket guide!
Very conveniently sized. Comes with high quality images, descriptions, and range maps of each bird. My only complaint is that it doesn't feature every bird, but there are so many I can't really blame the book.

Great for Bird watchers
I have purchased all the National Geographic that provide nature and this one also is great. Good teaching guide and pictures are gorgeous. Good take along if bird watching or to identify.

Great portable book for a new bird watcher
I got this for my 5 yr old daughter and she loves it. It’s small enough to fit in a coat pocket or small bag. The photos are vivid and make it easy to find birds by visual description.

Good guide to selected birds, but omits some great birds
I found this pocket guide to be a great source of information on the selected birds, but I am baffled how they decided which birds to include. For example, it omits my favorite bird, the pileated woodpecker. For those who aren't familiar, the pileated woodpecker is a large, fairly common woodpecker found over large parts of the US and Canada. The cartoon character Woody Woodpecker was a pileated. Why they decided to leave out an iconic bird like the pileated woodpecker is baffling, and makes me wonder what other significant birds have been left out. I think they should have expanded the number of birds included, rather than leaving out an iconic bird such as the pileated. I see some other reviewers have the same issue with this guide.Nice guide for the selected birds, but omits common and iconic species.

Very basic probably best for children
Really not worth buying ... the birds listed are very common and the number of birds in each category is minimal ... crows and seagulls got a lot of coverage but no mention of the bird which prompted me to buy a field guide in the first place ...the blue pinyon Jay ... possibly a child's book

Disappointed
I am disappointed with this book. I cannot find the birds I have been observing in western Canada. Also, some that are found up here, show they only live in more southern areas.
