Work great on tile floors
These are awesome. When I first opened them they seemed to be identical to regular casters, except maybe better quality. The 'soft tread' doesn't seem too soft. I initially ordered them to replace the jammed up casters on a chair my mom gave me. Well turns out that chair was from ikea...and apparently ikea doesn't use standard sized casters. So after scraping the heck out of a finger trying to jam one of these in there I realized it simply was not going to fit. I went ahead & ordered a new chair which came with standard casters - I have tile floors & my landlord is seriously OCD about the tile & grout (which is hysterical b/c honestly - my place is not that nice...it's actually a borderline sh*thole - i mean what she calls laminate is the peel & stick kind). But since I knew it would bug me hearing the standard casters on the tile & I fear it might give her a heart attack if she actually saw that I went ahead & used these. Glad I did - you can hear & feel the difference in the way they glide over the tile floors.

Perfect for hardwood floors. Quiet and smooth rolling
Great for hardwood floors. They roll smoothly and eliminate the need for an ugly floor mat. Easy install on two different model chairs. It appears that most chairs have a universal size caster.A little pricey, but seem worth it. I have used them for about 3 months and they seem to be holding up well.

These are softer
I saw the negative reviews after purchasing these and started worrying, but after receiving them I am convinced they were a good investment. My old casters are clearly a harder material and have sharper edges touching the floor, these are still somewhat solid, but clearly softer than my old ones and have a flat surface for even pressure along every part of the roller. I feel much better using these than I would my old ones. That said, I also wanted extra protection, so I purchased a PVC mat with a good price point and have been very satisfied with the combination. You can check it out here: Cleartex AdvantageMat PVC Chair Mat for Low Pile Carpets - up to 1/4 Inch Thick, Clear, 48 x 36 Inches (119225LV) and as of 8/27/11 can be had for under $20 if you're willing to wait an extra couple weeks (see my review there).

Unsatisfactory performance
I purchased these casters to go on a new Kronos chair purchased at Staples. The casters that came with the chair were made to roll on carpet, and were not compatible with the new Allure vinyl plank floor system I installed. So I tried these casters which are "For Hard Surface Floors".My flooring is hard, so they should work. And in fact, the replacements from Amazon were an improvement, but in the end, disappointing. There is still too much sliding instead or rolling. The caster material is too hard, and there is not enough friction to ensure rolling. After two months I could not stand it any more and purchased a set of casters with soft wheels from Staples for $55. Ouch!! I only just installed them, but so far they seem way better. The caster surface is softer and tackier so it grabs the slick floor and rolls.

Right style, wrong size
They didn't fit. The ad was vague about what points (where to where) the various measurements encompassed. I realize it is difficult to determine diameter of the stem. Otherwise the casters were just what I needed as replacements for our dining room chairs.

... 30 months use I can say these have their good and bad points
After 30 months use I can say these have their good and bad points. They don't mark the floors and I found them to be quiet. The bad : Onebroke after 18 months. One of the wheels fell off and i could not reattach it, completely broken. Now after 30 months, three of the remaining 4 wheels are shedding the ring which attaches to the wheel and contacts the floor. I will have to try gluing them together but this should not happen. I expected the wheels to last longer then this. I am nowhere near the weight limit and don't understand why they are just falling apart. I would not buy again.

Soft Tread Good for Hardwood Floors
Our new kitchen set from Chromcraft came with the standard hard plastic casters. We had just installed new engineered hardwood flooring from Mirage and were concerned that the plastic casters would damage the floor. Research on the web indicated that the problem with plastic casters is twofold. The plastic is hard and the edges of the casters are sharp not rounded on the inside edges of the wheels. At times the casters will slide on the floor creating scratches and sometimes will dig into the floor as the caster swivels. In addition, the wheels tend to roll too easily when lightly loaded as when getting out of the chair allowing the chair to take off. We searched around and found the good deal at Amazon with free shipping for the Soft Tread Casters. The order came quickly from Amazon. It was easy to remove the old casters with the help of a screwdriver to pry them out. Installation was an easy push in fit. After one month of use the floor is scratch free and looks like the day it was installed. The casters roll easily but not as quickly as the original plastic casters so you needn't worry about the chairs running away from you when you get up. The only negative I can give is the casters were made in China. Isn't almost everything from China? Oh well!

Doesn't look like much, but works very well.
When these first arrived, I was sure that they were just a gimmick. They looked exactly like the wheels on my chair, I didn't think they were any different than the one's currently scratching my hardwood floors. I was wrong. They are a much softer rubbery substance that glides over my handscraped hardwood with barely a noise, and no more scratches. Great product!
