Pricey, but perfect for a couple weeks overseas
You see a lot of these bags around airports and now I know why. Great build quality, they fit nicely on your back, no pinch points, it breathes nicely. Just got back from 16 days in 4 countries, solely using this bag. Expensive but quality. As noted above, many people have these, a touch of customization to make your own stand out from the crowd is recommended! Had a gentleman pull mine from the overhead, we had identical bags other than a carabiner I had on mine.

CAN lock laptop pocket
Great pack! Writing this specifically to address the review who said you can’t lock the laptop pocket. There’s a fabric loop at the top of the laptop zipper, so you can lock the zipper to that loop.Yes, it could be cut with a knife, but then so can the fabric of the pack itself.I love this bag, it’s going to be great for travel. I love the capacity, comfort, ability to convert to a duffel essentially, and ability to attach a smaller pack.

Plenty of space and the world‘s best zippers.
I have had this osprey bag for one year. It has held up remarkably with all of my travels. I fly at least four times per month, and I am rugged with my things. I purchased some camera bag separators for the inside and it remains in high-quality shape. This is the first bag that has been able to stand up to my travels and the wear and tear of flights and daily use holding pretty much all of my gear. Sometimes on smaller flights, it’s tough to get into the overhead bins but I always seem to manage even on a CRJ 900. I added carabiners to the zipper tabs to make them easier to grab and pull. The side pocket for the laptop cannot be overstated. It has kept my laptop and iPad safe during my travels.

Nearly Perfect, Yet A Tad Short on Exterior Storage
The Osprey Farpoint 40 has quickly become a mainstay in my travel gear arsenal. A product that earns an almost flawless rating, it boasts a plethora of features that appeal to both the weekend wanderer and the global adventurer. But like anything in life, it has room for improvement, earning it a commendable four-star rating. To start, the Farpoint 40's design, construction, and materials are top-notch. This backpack has durability written all over it. From its strong zippers to its tough nylon exterior, this bag is built to withstand the rough and tumble of life on the move. Its compact design also comfortably meets carry-on standards for most airlines – a welcome convenience in the world of travel. The comfort level of this backpack is superb. The weight distribution with the padded shoulder straps and hip belt has been carefully thought through. I’ve carried this pack through bustling city streets and along rugged hiking trails, and the support it provides is fantastic. The ventilated back panel also helps keep you cool on the move - a feature you’ll appreciate when hauling gear in warmer climates.Inside, the Farpoint 40 shines with its roomy main compartment and internal compression straps to hold everything secure. The laptop and tablet sleeves in the front compartment are well padded and easy to access, giving me peace of mind about my valuable electronics.Despite all these pros, the Farpoint 40 has one shortfall – exterior storage. While it offers twin mesh water bottle pockets, it lacks an ample number of external pockets for convenient storage and quick access to smaller items. On more than one occasion, I've found myself rummaging through the main compartment to find travel essentials, which can be a bit frustrating when you're on the move. The addition of a few more well-placed exterior pockets would greatly enhance the pack's convenience and accessibility. That being said, the Osprey Farpoint 40 is a stellar performer overall, providing a blend of comfort, durability, and spaciousness. It's an excellent choice for travelers seeking a dependable carry-on backpack. However, if you're someone who appreciates a wealth of exterior storage options, you may find this pack slightly lacking. With that refinement, the Farpoint 40 would easily step into five-star territory.

More versatile than standard luggage
This backpack was very useful on it's first trip. Navigating an airport and the plane is much easier than with a standard suitcase. For travel and living out of the bag for a week, it was far more convenient to open and load/unload than a standard top opening backpack. The quality feels good and I like the structure it maintains even when not fully loaded (It's not sloppy and slouchy.)Two things I wish it had: An additional exterior zippered pocket to access small items when traveling. A method to use the shoulder straps but keep the hip straps zipped into the back until needed.

Best travel bag
I got this backpack travel bag for a two week trip to Japan. Initially I was worried it would be too small. It turned out to be just the right size for “one bagging”! And actually it is big enough for the entire trip and more!Honestly, a bigger bag makes me want to pack more. For a developed country you don’t need much, if you need something and forgot it, you can buy it anywhere. I took more clothes than I needed, and with the help of laundry sheets I was able to stay clean and fresh.I love this bag, it allowed me to get on a plane, train, and bus without having to check anything in! It was so convenient and comfortable that I’m using it for all my travels now. The price is worth it.I do recommend a very small light weight daypack for when you drop this off at your destination. I’m still searching for that.
