they make really bright flashlites with good battery life
this is my third product from NITECORE, they make really bright flashlites with good battery life, the quality of the battery seems good so far. but my biggest disappointment is the reliability and durability of there flashlights. honestly I am not impressed with the durability. had two switches go bad on two separate lights, and now my third one is barley working. return policy sucks. going to make the switch to Olite

Approved edc light
I would like to start with some information that might help everybody. I have many of their flashlights (Nitecore) and also many of their batteries, including the 3400 USB charged batteries, the 3400 batteries, and the 2600 batteries, and the 3100 tm8 battery. This light will only run on batteries that have 8 amp discharge rate. If it doesn't say that then it's not going to work, you can use a 2600 but it will go out pretty quickly. I am not sure if anyone is using regular standard cr123 batteries but this would not apply to you only the people that are using 18650. this was a little bit disheartening but yet I can understand why because it is a high drain device, but I had 10 of their batteries and thought maybe one of them would work. This was the only drawback that I could find to this flashlight. The size of the flashlight is actually smaller than most other ones that I have, which is perfect. I did test this next to the eax Hammer which is 2000 lumens and this is respectively 1800 lumens. The spread is good, the centralized ring of Illumination in the middle is also well placed, it does have a good throw, and it does get pretty hot. I have had nitecore flashlights for a long time, I have auditioned about 20 of them so far. This light is very compact, very lightweight and has strong output. I have tested others, but for the money, the durability of their flashlights along with their batteries in my mind so far have stood up past the others. I purchase and test all these products myself they do not endorse my ratings whatsoever.

Huge amount of light, compact, well built
I like this flashlight / torch so much I've given numerous out as gifts to my family. Believe it or not, even my girly-girl teenage nieces requested these as gifts. They saw how much light this flashlight cast out in the woods at my family's property, and they were in awe. It gets DARK out there since there's essentially no light pollution, but when this compact flashlight is turned on at its max brightness, you'll have plenty of illumination hundreds of feet away. It's a clean blue-white light. The aluminum housing is durable, it has flats on the sides to keep it from rolling, it's watertight, there's really nothing I don't like about this light. It's also bright enough to essentially stun someone if they approach you in the dark. They won't be able to look directly toward the light, and if they do, everything behind the light will be relatively invisible in the darkness. That's why I have one beside my bed; it will illuminate the entire main area of our home while essentially concealing everything behind it unless there's a lot of reflected light. If I had to pick one thing to improve, it would be the switch placement. I do sometimes accidentally actuate it and change the brightness since it's right were my fingers want to fall. I also have several other models of Nitecore flashlights of similar size, and I don't seem to have this problem on most of those. Not a reason to pass this flashlight by, though!

A Good Light With a Few Drawbacks
I've had this flashlight since mid January and carried it daily, so for about four months at the time of this review. I used the bonus included Nitecore 2500 mah battery, a Sony VCT6, and a Sanyo NCR18650GA. So far it has been very reliable, but I think I'll start with the most obvious issues I have with the light. There was one instance where the light was non-responsive and the blue light under the mode button stayed lit. The tail cap had to be unscrewed slightly and tightened again to remedy the issue, so not a serious issue at all. Unscrewing the tail cap slight is all important when storing it in pockets as I've had numerous instances where the light has been inadvertently switched on and gone into turbo in my pocket. It even came on and melted the pocket in one of my pairs of shorts that had black pocket liners. The primary cause of this is that the turbo is accessed through a long press of the mode button from off. Therefore, when the elevated mode button is in contact with something in the pocket, it has a tendency to enter turbo mode. In my opinion the turbo mode should be accessed through a double or triple click to avoid scenarios in which the light is turned on through unintentional prolonged switch depression. Compounding this issue then is that the light gets very hot in the 1800 lumen turbo and puts out a lot of light that's capable of doing damage to thinner materials relatively quickly. Remembering to lock out the light, through a slight turn counterclockwise of the tail cap, is key to ensure there isn't accidental activation of the light, but a more thoughtful UI and recessed mode button could have perhaps avoided this issue. My final complaint, while mentioned previously, is that the mode button is raised and also that it's made of a rubber or silicone like material. This means that the button is in constant contact with the inside of my pocket and is already showing signs of wear. Almost all of the little nubs which are elevated above and below the word "mode" have worn down significantly. I'm hoping that the wear will slow down once the nubs have fully worn out, or I'll be taking advantage of their five year warranty in the next year or two for button wear. One thing that I like about this light is the fact that it has very consistent brightness over the course of the battery's run time. This is thanks to the XHP-35 emitter and the boost driver it requires. In addition to that, it has active temperature management as opposed to a timer based step down. From what I could find, this is a very reasonable price for a light with these features. It really is a very bright light and I really enjoy that it has one click on and on click off operation. Personally I usually leave it on the 300 lumen mode and then utilize either the instant access to 1 lumen or the turbo mode from off as needed. Momentary turbo is also a very nice feature to have as well when quickly scanning an area at a greater distance than the primary subject. The anodizing has been top notch and has suffered minimal damage despite being used regularly. My final opinion is that it is a solidly built flashlight that puts out a lot of lumens with a few caveats regarding the switch and the UI. Therefore, I have a difficult time recommending it as an edc light due to the ease of unintentional access to turbo as a result of the UI and the elevated switch. Excluding those issues though, it has been a great light and really is an excellent value given the feature set.Included are pictures of the mode button in its current state.Edit: added another picture of the button depicting its wear as of October 2018I'm thinking the wear will slow down now that it's reached the main portion of the button.

No charger input on light!
I didn't look to into this flashlight but I did notice the price...thinking over $50 it should get something. It came with a battery no charger AND for some reason I was expecting a holder...even a cheap Maglite comes with one...and another bummer no zoom in or out...

Garbage. Stopped working after a few weeks
Garbage. Stopped working after a few weeks. A flashlight that suddenly stops working after an unreasonably short time is potentially a danger. Evidently, the people who manufactured this item do not care if you live or die. Do not buy this.
