I don’t understand these chain sizes describe them to other sizes

As expamples: a #50 chain has a 5/8" link length from center of river to center of rivet. A #40 is 4/8" center to center and so on. The # comes from the number of 1/8's the chain links are. You can measure your existing chain in 8ths of an inch and thats your size. Then, you need to figure out how many teeth are on the sprocket you need. Such as "17h." The last number is the size of the hole in the bearing for its axle. IE: 1/2" bore or 5/8" bore.

what is out side diameter and are there set screws to fasten it to shaft

The outside is 3 1/2" and there are no set screws.

NOT compatible with 420 chain

This sprocket is NOT compatible with 420 chain. The pitch is correct at 1/2 inch however the roller width of 420 chain is more narrow than #40 and #41 chain. This sprocket is too thick and requires modifications. I used a 1/8 inch 4.5 inch round cutoff wheel to grind down each side of the sprocket teeth. Worked perfectly. The chain now wraps completely around sprocket without issue. The bearing is kind of tight. I'm assuming it will loosen up a bit after break-in is complet.
