JCO's stories are jaw-dropping. 'I Am No One You Know' is the very top notch of American short story collections for me and these come within a hair's breadth.

Oates is so productive - and seem to publish next to everything, thus she ends up a bit uneven. This collection has a few lesser stories, but is on the whole one of the author's stronger. Focusing on the touches of evil in women it also challenges the stereotype notion that women are always 'good'. Recommended.
