First electric shaver I’ve really liked
I had a regular shaver that cut okay as long as I shaved every day. And I don’t exactly have 5 o’clock shadow either. Just always struggled to cut my neck hairs as they don’t grow in one direction. Too often that shaver (was Philips also) missed entire hairs. Was deciding between a 3 head shaver and a nicer Braun single head shaver. Very glad I went with the Philips. Easy to use. Several settings mean I can go 3 days between shaves without a painful experience using a lower setting. And then increase the setting to finish things off. It’s been gentle on my skin and has done a pretty solid job of cutting those neck hairs that lay flat and won’t grow straight. It’s also quick. If there’s a downside it’s in the approach to cleaning. I haven’t noticed problems yet but as you are expected to rinse out every day for a few minutes (maybe if you’re a Wookie) it can be a tad tricky to get the blades off. I haven’t used the other attachment but the entire head comes off easily (as in when I’m nit trying to pull it off) and getting just the blade piece off is a little more delicate. I’m also nervous here that I’ll cause damage to one or more of the parts pulling everything apart daily. But that possibly imagined risk seems to be worth the better shaves I’m getting with this. I have no regrets a month in.

What a GREAT razor!
I have been using Philips Norelco shavers since the late 70's. I have lost count on how many I have had over the years, though I think it has been maybe 6 or 7. I had one model in a remote village, and later a town in western Nepal, where I recharged with my solar panel. However I have charged them, they have always given a good shave. My last model, 8140 XL, lasted nine years. This however, beats them all. Shave is quick and close, thorough and smooth. Charges fast and lasts me about three weeks. the 9850 is the best! The trimmer is used by removing the shaving heads, then attaching separately. Not a good design. However the actual trim is much superior to the previous model. I don't trim that often, so no dings on account of that .Philips Norelco Shaver 9850

No trimmer, but shaves well
Shaves well. Was easier to do maintenance than I thought. The "timer" is not actual time minutes. Best to think of this as percentage of battery left. It doesn't come with a cover, but that's not too big an issue. What I really miss from my previous Philips shaver is the trimmer. Used to trim sideburns with it, but can no longer do this without changing out the shaving head. That's a real inconvenience. Otherwise excellent shaver.

The best electric razor. Well worth the high price
The old saying “you get what you pay for” is so true with this Philips Norelco electric shaver. When searching on the Web and Amazon for a new electric shaver to replace the my old Surker electric razor that I could no longer buy replacement blades for, I think the Philips Norelco model Series 9000 I eventually selected was the most expensive I could find. I decided to give it a try I spite of it’s price. I made the right decision. This Razor is fantastic. You get a shave as close as a wet blade razor would give. You can shave using your shaving cream in or out of the shower. Fantastic razor. Save up your money and buy this model rather than a model from the cheaper manufacturers.

Also great for traveling
This razor shaves as close dry as my Gillette does wet. The difference is you don't have to wet and wait for the beard to get wet, you just start shaving. If you haven't shaved electric before it's worth checking out their website for tips on how to do it right. The first few times it was still stubbly, but there's a technique to get it right. If you start in gentle circles, then go more firmly against the grain after a few passes it's as smooth and close as a wet shave. Also great for traveling.

Not what the description says it is
The description of this item is completely wrong. It states: Model 9850 Choose the speed setting that best fits your skin and hair type: Sensitive (for an even more skin-friendly shave), Medium (for a thorough shave), and Fast (for a high-powered shave) It is actually the S9031 model and only has one speed? It looks like a few people have noted this discrepancy and Amazon still continues to use this description. It will be going back to Amazon and someone else will receive the item not realizing the description is incorrect.

More expensive, but not as good as earlier model
I had been using an earlier version of this razor for several years when the beard-trimming plastic clip broke. It was fairly flimsy and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I looked everywhere for a replacement, since the razor still worked. I finally gave up and just bought the latest version of the razor. It looks and runs the same, except it's noisier than the older one and the beard-trimming clip is a bit thicker, which should make it less likely to break. However, because it's thicker it doesn't adjust as well and the hairs accumulate in the plastic grooves falling into the sink in clumps rather than as you are trimming, as the older model did. Given the cost, I expected an improvement, but I don't see it.

A fine electric shaver
I hadn't used an electric shaver for years -- decades, really -- and always thought they did a poor job compared to a razor. But hearing that electric shavers have improved greatly since I last tried one I thought I'd give the new Norelco a try, and I'm very glad I did. It gives a nice, close shave without pulling or missing any whiskers, though every now and then I do use a blade to capture an errant one that the shaver might have missed. It's quick and smooth and well worth the price given that blades have become very costly.
